Following report kindly supplied by Caernarfon RFC.
Caernarfon's excellent try at the beginning of the second half was the only true highlight of this dour struggle between two sides desperately seeking a rich vein of form at present. The Cofis then held on to take the spoils to improve their seasons points tally a little.
The match had began profitably for the home side as a run out of defence by Aled Jones found the ready support of Captain Carwyn Roberts. He in turn fed scrumhalf Rhodri Jones who found space within the tramlines to dash thirty meters to the corner with only two minutes played.
Further opportunities came Caernarfon's way both from the tee and from one driving maul that nearly resulted in a try out wide.
Having been left off the hook, Bro slowly upped their game with the contribution of Tom and Dewi James instrumental in gaining forward momentum, whilst Dylan Daniels had the knack of breaking the first up tackles. However they often lost good field positions through minor transgressions, brought about by frustration more than anything.
As the half wore on the Cofis missed one overlap opportunity whilst Bro had one touchdown declined by the unsighted match official. Two further knock on calls penalised the slate men in their effort to gain parity, whilst Caernarfon were grateful to Rhodri Jones and Gareth Pritchard for solid defensive play as half time loomed.
Playing downhill the Cofis once again opened strongly with an Adam Thomas break leading to a swift downfield charge. Excellent support play and passing out of the tackle by Sion Owen and Pritchard once more finally saw the ball back in Thomas's hands and the winger tenacity took him beyond the whitewash.
Bro were not to be outdone and by keeping the ball at close quarters, made their way back up field. One opportunity was lost when a driving maul split but their doggedness finally paid dividends when centre Jordan Meredith hit the line at pace to squeeze over with sixteen minutes of the half played.
Derfel Thomas did well to come to Caernarfon's aid following another Bro foray, before the Cofis breathed another sigh of relief when following a period of pressure of their own, Aled Jones spotted the smallest of gaps to dart through and touchdown.
Fifteen minutes remained for Bro to overturn the ten point deficit and within five they were back in contention after another forward orientated drive brought them into the red zone. Following a series of pick up and drives the final pass was delivered timely to forward rushing Alan Jones who charged over close to the posts, thus offering Mathew Williams the added extras.
However the extra three point margin remained in Caernarfon's favour, up till the relief of the final whistle for the home crowd.
