Steve (photo a few years ago!) has been appointed as President of Welsh Rugby Union Referees Society
Llongyfarchiadau Steve rwyt am gael blwyddyn ddiddorol a phrysur mwynha.
The Welsh Society of Rugby Union Referees is also known as the ‘Parent Body’ and is made up of nine distinct districts within Wales which are:-
• Amman Valley
• Dragons District – Gwent
• Ospreys District
• Mid District
• Mid Wales
• Pembrokeshire
• Cardiff District
• Llanelli District
• North Wales
The society meets on a monthly basis to discuss all issues relating to refereeing rugby union matches within Wales.
The society has a very close working relationship with the Nation Referees Manager and negotiates on issues such as payments for different grades of games within Wales, corporate clothing, travel expenses, sponsorship, allocation of kit for all referees in Wales, training and development, and corporate clothing.
The society has its own constitution which is currently under review and advice and guidance has been received from all district societies on the makeup of the new constitution.
The society will act as conduit for all referees within Wales and will assist in any issues they have relating to refereeing.
Each year one of the district societies will take it in turn to elect a person to act as President of the Welsh Society for one year, this year it is the turn of North Wales Society and I have the honour of being their elected person to take up the office of President.
My role this year will be to attend all Parent Body meetings throughout the season, work closely with the WSRUR executive on the new constitution, as well as visit each district society to introduce myself and speak with referees and fellow advisors within Wales. I will also be asked to present the award for the most hospitable club at one of the home international games, this is an annual award voted for by the referees of Wales to the club that best fits the criteria, who best looks after the referee on match days. The award not only looks at how hospitable clubs are towards a referee, but also marks clubs against things like changing facilities etc.
