Three fantastic games played tonight - check out the results and current situation here.
Some great Thursday night games in the Conwy Land Rover Senior Cup tonight.
In the Senior Cup, Llangefni held on to their early 3-17 lead and, despite a gallant comeback by Caernarfon, the final score of 15-17 puts Cefni in to the semi finals. A nailbiter! Hopefully a report to follow later.
The other game in the senior cup tonight didn’t have such a close scoreline as Bala overcame Ruthin 7-36 and secured their semi final spot.
Bala got the first points of the night with a Robin Jones try and fifteen minutes later extended their lead to 0-12 with a Dave Yates try and an Owain Aled conversion.
Right on the stroke of half time, Owain Pugh crossed for Bala’s third try, again converted by Owain Aled and an interval lead of 0-19.
A further try early in the second half virtually sealed the game with Ilan Rowlands crossing, again converted by Owain Aled, giving a commanding scoreline of 0-26.
Ten minutes later Arfon Rowlands got himself on the scoreboard, again converted and the lead was up to 0-36.
Ruthin never gave up and were rewarded with a try of their own which was unfortunately too little, too late and it was left to Bala’s Owain Aled to slot over a penalty to give a final scoreline of 7-36 to the visitors.
In Mid Wales, there was a mouthwatering derby between Llanidloes and COBRA in the Intermediate Cup Quarter Finals and it was anybody’s game until the final whistle.
Llanidloes started well and scored first with a penalty by Adam Price which was cancelled out soon after when COBRA scored a penalty of their own to draw level.
Down to 14 men and with half time approaching, it was Llanidloes who struck next, another penalty by Price to give an interval score of 6-3.
Early in the second half, hooker Ieuan Phillips crossed after some great work by his fellow forwards, extending the lead to 11-3.
With time running out, it took a stroke of brilliance from COBRA’s number eight, Jack Jukes, to weave through the home defence and touch down and the conversion giving the hosts a narrow 11-10 lead.
Llani did well to play most of the final minutes in the COBRA half and when the final whistle sounded, you could almost hear the relief amongst the home supporters.
