The race for promotion will go down to the final day of the season, this Saturday, when Dolgellau will visit Shotton and Denbigh visit Llanidloes. A win for Dolgellau will secure first division next season.
Llangollen made life extremely difficult for the hosts, and twenty five minutes were on the clock when Dolgellau scrum half, Jac Roberts’ speculative chip was neatly gathered by skipper Gerwyn Thomas who found centre Gareth Hughes to score the opening try. His fellow centre, Henri Roberts converted to ease the tension and make the score 7-0.
Another long kick by Gerwyn Thomas caused chaos in the visiting defence that eventually led to wing Rhys Lewis crashing over for the try to put the hosts 12-0 ahead with four minutes remaining, and in the very last minute wing Rob Pugh rounded the cover defence to score Dolgellau’s third try. Henri Roberts added the conversion to make the half-time score 19-0.
Llangollen stand-off,James Claybrook, started and finished the move that put the visitors on the score sheet after only five second half minutes. He duly added the conversion to make it 19-7, but their joy was short lived as Dolgellau ran in two rapid tries with wing Rob Pugh scoring from half way, for a great individual effort, and centre Gareth Hughes adding their fifth try after quarter of an hour. Both were converted by Henri Roberts to ease Dolgellau to a 33-7 lead.
Wing Anthony Davies scored a try for Llangollen with three minutes remaining, before centre Henri Roberts added Dolgellau’s sixth try in injury time, with brother Jac Roberts this time adding the conversion to make it 40-12.
