A pilot initiative to re position the rugby season to the summer months was hosted as part of the Dolgellau RFC Junior Festival at the Marian on Monday evening..
Taking into account that players as young as six take part in regional rugby, the idea to make junior games more appealing to youngsters has its advantages.
Last winters game cancellation on the Marian including both rugby and soccer for all age groups amounted to almost a hundred games.
Marc Roberts WRU Regional Participation Manager said “The trial of seasonal repositioning is about more than weather. We are keen to open up a 7 day window of opportunity for families and communities to engage in our game in a more flexible way. We are in active discussions with other sports to look at creating multi sport opportunities for all"
The event at Dolgellau RFC Marian ground was attended by 4 teams in each age group. Bala, Bro Ffestiniog, Dolgellau and COBRA all took part on a beautiful evening's junior rugby which was enjoyed by a host of enthusiastic parents, supporters and enthusiastic junior players alike.
