BALA 32 v BETHESDA 7
Bala were 20-0 up by half time with a try bonus point gained against a disorganised Bethesda team but due credit must be given to Bethesda as they fought back in the second half to score a try and conversion to cut the score to 20-7 and they were well worth the score as they pressurised the Bala team but Bala held on, and after a prolonged spell of pressure from Bethesda on the Bala try line, the home team broke out from defence and scored a try through Iestyn Jones and this score broke Bethesda's spiroted comeback.
Bala went on to score another try through Endaf Jones after Mathew Befan was tackled close to the try line and the ball popped up ( ???) to Endaf who finished it off.Bala scorers on the daywere Endaf Jones 2 tries, Iestyn Jones 1 try, Danial Roberts 1 try, Rhydian Jones 1 try and Chris Roberts 1 try with Rhydian Jones convertying 1 of the tries.
This Saturday Bala play Nant Conwy in the final game of the season and a win for Bala will see them win the league for the first time in their short history but Nant will be all out to stop this happening. Hopefully the people of Bala will come and support the team on this special day.

Caernarfon 71 v Bro Ffestiniog 0
The cliché referring to a game of two halves was very appropriate as regards what happened on the Morfa in this Division 1 North encounter last Saturday. Caernarfon had huffed and puffed to a twelve-point half time lead but the points tally increased at regular intervals during the second half.
The uncontested scrum scenario was one factor that nullified Caernarfon’s possible dominance but insecure handling prevented a few possible scores from being recorded early on. It took thirty minutes for the Bro line to be breached when a line out take and swift passing finally allowed Rob Farrer enough space to score out wide. Then during the final play of the half, a touchline break by stand off Aled Jones found Gethin Evans on the inside and he was able to run in unopposed close to the posts for Kelvin Morris to be able to add the extras.
Over complication cost a few early opportunities in the second half but as soon as centre Barrie Jones had crossed from a scrum pick up and drive by Aron Gwyn the resistance shown by a gallant Bro outfit waned. There followed a fine team try set up by the impressive Gareth Prebble at full back, his run was well supported by Llew Williams who found Rhys Evans at hand to score.
Sub Johnathan Davies added forward momentum having a hand in the next two tries, the first scored by Aron Gwyn and then followed quickly by second row Llew Williams. The forward’s try scoring escapades came to an end when flanker Rhys Thomas added his support following a scrum close to the Bro line.
Rob Farrer added his second on seventy minutes with centre Carwyn Roberts drawing the cover to free Barrie Jones for his second minutes later and again he turned provider for Rob Farrer to score his hat-trick of tries with time running out. However one final assault and good interplay freed Gareth Prebble to round off a convincing victory. Kelvin Morris added seven from a possible nine conversions during the second half to add to the points tally.
Next week the final league match of the season against Pwllheli is scheduled for 2.30pm on the Morfa and should be a tense affair, as Pwllheli will have to win if to stand any chance of capturing the title should Bala slip up at home to Nant.

Newtown 9 v Abergele 24
For the first 10 minutes of this match the two sides were settling down and probing weaknesses although most of the play was in the Newtown half. Then Abergele fly half Richie Meddlicott made two good breaks down both flanks but both broke down just short of the line when a try looked certain. It was from one of these that centre Sean Condon picked up a pass and ran through from 22m scoring a try that Ian Marshall converted, 7-0 to Abergele.
Ten minutes later Marshall converted a penalty after Newtown were moved 10m nearer their own line by the referee. Almost from the kick off Marshall picked up a loose ball 30m out from his own line and after evading several Newtown tacklers ran the full 70m to touch down for a great individual try. Danny Lawrence converted for a 17-0 score line.
The first half had been all Abergele with their backs making some good breaks through the Newtown defence and their line out winning all their own ball and disrupting the Newtown ball. In the tight it was a different matter with the Newtown pack giving the Abergele eight a torrid time. Gele’s discipline had been good but gave away three kickable penalties around the half time break two of which Newtown converted. The half time score was 17-3, which went to 17-6 within a minute of the restart.
Newtown’s tails were up and although they put pressure on the Gele defence they never actually broke the line and all they could manage was another penalty after 55 minutes, 17-9. The Gele forwards then took charge with some good rucking an mauling which lead to a third try on 65 minutes, After pressure near the Newtown line on the left the ball was swung out quickly across the backs for Danny Lawrence to score on the right . He then converted his own try for a score of 24-9.
This was the end of the scoring but not the excitement as Newtown had a man yellow carded and Gele pressed to take advantage of this to get the bonus point try. They twice came within inches but were thwarted by infringements spotted by the referee.
This was a good all-round team performance by Gele with some sound defence and excellent lineout work in which the Gele forwards not only won nearly all their own lineouts but also disrupted 80% of the Newtown lineouts. On the downside Gele gave away 16 penalties many in kickable positions but this win marked a remarkable turnaround in Geles season where they won only 3 from 12 matches before the New Year followed by 7 wins from 8 after, giving a 50% win record for the season so far.
