A break in the 6 Nations and a full league programme in all Divisions this Saturday.
Last week in the Conwy Land Rover comps saw Nant go through to the Senior Cup semis and Wrexham and Teirw Nant followed suit in the Intermediate Cup. Caernarfon v Llangefni, Rhuthun v Bala, Flint v Abergele fell foul to the weather and these games to be re-arranged.
We are fast approaching the business end of the season where every point counts as teams jostle for positions for glory, promotion and relegation. There will be some tense encounters this week none more so than at Cae Ddafydd when 9th placed Bethesda ( P15 W4 L11) take on Dolgellau (P14 W3 L11), equal on points with Dol having a game in hand. Their points difference is also very close. Both teams have shown good form of late and it bodes for a tight game- the Quarrymen may have enough to take the points.
Leaders Nant (P15 W14 L1) visit The Morfa to take on the Cofis (P13 W4 L9) whom they beat 43-7 earlier in the season. The Cofis had a good win at Mold last time out and the leaders will be wary of their last visit when they lost 16-15 -one of only two defeats last season which dented their title hopes. Could be a thriller but I have to go with form and an away win.
Colwyn Bay with only one victory this season welcome second place Bala (P14 W10 L4) to Brookfield Road. The visitors, smarting from a recent home defeat against Llandudno will be keen to get back on track. An away win on the cards here.
Llandudno (P13 W9 L4) who have climbed to 4th position in the table after 5 successive wins entertain 6th place Mold (P15 W7 L8). The visitors have narrowly lost their last two games and will be keen to avenge their defeat on their last visit to Maesdu Road in the WRU Plate earlier in the season. Mold will give Tudno a run for their money but on balance I will go for a home win.
A double header of League and Conwy Land Rover Cup at Bodegroes when current champions Pwllheli (P12 W11 L1) welcome Bro (P12 W4 L8). The visitors have dropped to second from bottom but with games in hand over their fellow strugglers. A hard ask for Bro who will give their all but Pwll are favourites on Saturday.
Llangefni (13 W9 L4) travel to Cae Ddol to take on 7th placed Rhuthun (P16 W7 L8). The home side are in need of a win after two consecutive defeats whilst Cefni are going well and are only 2 points adrift of 4th place Llandudno. Rhuthun will take some stopping at home, it was a close 19-15 defeat at Cae Smyrna and I feel the Cae Ddol outfit could claim the points this time round.
DIVISION 2
Runaway leaders CRDinbych have a blank Saturday whilst 2nd place Shotton following their mid week success in the Conwy Land Rover comp at Bryn Estyn travel to bottom club Abergele. A mid table clash at Llanidloes where Rhyl are the visitors. A tasty mid wales derby at Meifod when 4th place COBRA take on neighbours Newtown. Another derby at Llangollen when 3rd place Wrexham come calling. Bangor who are in 6th travel to Welshpool.
DIVISION 3
Benllech will reserve a warm welcome to local rivals Menai Bridge. Second place Holyhead entertain 6th place Fflint whilst Mold 2nd XV make the journey to improving Machynlleth. CRDinbych 2nd XV make their way to Rhos. Match of the day will be leaders Teirw Nant visit to Bodegroes to face Pwllheli 2ndXV -the Llyn boys will be all out to avenge their Cup defeat at Pant Carw last week.
