Excitement mounts as Nant travel to Cardiff for the National Plate Final.
The week end rugby action will be overshadowed by Nant trip to Cardiff Principality Stadium for Sunday's Plate final against Brynmawr. This is a fantastic achievement to reach the final --
The journey started on Friday evening 6th October 2017 when they beat Bro 34-8 at Pant Carw ( is it a coincidence in this historical year for the club that their first ever fixture on their formation was against Bro at Dolwyddelan ?)
Next up on Saturday 28th October was a trip to Aberavon Quins coming home victorious with a 29-20 win.
This was followed on the 9th December by a journey to west Wales and a hard fought 27-24 victory at Whitland to go through to the quarter finals.
Progress did not get any easier as in the quarters they drew previously unbeaten Maesteg Quins at Pant Carw. In an epic encounter on 10th March in front of a huge crowd Nant won 23-22.
They were now through to the semi final and on Saturday 31st March the Nant faithful journeyed down to mid wales to see their team take on high riding and last year's beaten finalists Ystalyfera at Llanidloes. The Nant boys won 10-0 with another highly disciplined and robust defensive display which has been a trademark throughout their campaign, to march through to the final on Sunday.
Their opponents on Sunday are Div 1 East runaway leaders Brynmawr who like Nant have only lost one league match all season. What do we know about Brynmawr ?-it is situated at the head of the South Wales Valleys, it is regarded as the highest town in England and Wales standing at 1500 feet above sea level- population circa 6000 and a history steeped in coal and ironworks in nearby Nantyglo and Blaenavon. They will be formidable opponents.
History lesson over who will make history on Sunday ? , neither have won previously although as we know Nant came so close in 2012 in the final against Penallta. Will Nant be able to return North with the prestigious trophy after missing out on their last visit , it could be their time on Sunday. Their squad which includes 3 Jones' 2 Davies' 2 Roberts' coupled with the 3 Ifans 2 Carwyns and 2 Rob(in)s have battled long and hard to get to the final and all of North Wales will be urging them on at Cardiff.
Pob lwc hogia, Dowch a'r tlws adra , Dowch o na Nant.
