Colwyn Bay U14s 5 points v Dinbych Under 14s 39 points
Dinbych’s U14s ended 2011 by extending their unbeaten run to nice games with victory at Colwyn Bay
Despite a number of absences, Dinbych still produced another strong performance as they ran in 7 tries. Props James Fisher Jones and Harri Evans scored a brace each, and man of the match Sion Spencer together with Rhys Lloyd and Dafydd Roberts also crossed for tries. In dreadful weather conditions, Josh Morris did well to add two conversions to Dinbych’s tally. Cameron Lane Williams scored a consolation try for the home side.
Dinbych showed little signs of rustiness despite a fortnights break from training and playing. They threatened from the start and the first score came in the first five minutes. The play was played out wide to the left wing and hardworking winger Sion Spencer cut inside the Bay defence and shrugged off two of the home defenders to power over for his well-earned first try of the season. Spencer’s hard work in both attack and defence meant he was a popular choice as man of the match.
Dinbych’s second score quickly followed. Centre Ynyr Clwyd showed some neat footwork as he danced through the Bay defence before offloading to James Fisher Jones to run in for a simple try. Dinbych’s third also came as a result of some jinking running by Ynyr Clwyd with Harri Evans this time in support to take the pass and cross for a try.
Dinbych’s fourth came from a quickly taken penalty on the 5 metre side near the left touchline. Some excellent handling skills saw the bell fed wide across the field to centre Rhys Lloyd who spotted and darted through a gap in the Bay defence to touch down to the right of the post. The positioning helped Josh Morris to beat the wind and driving rain as he slotted over the conversion to give Dinbych a 0-22 lead.
With Dinbych looking comfortable, the coaches made some changes including moving Dafydd Roberts from the pack to the centre. He soon showed his versatility by collecting a ball on the 22 metre line and sprinting down the right touchline to cross for Dinbych’s fifth try.
With a 0-27 lead Dinbych’s players allowed themselves to relax and Colwyn Bay started to develop some composure. Their pack worked well with some excellent counter rucking punishing Dinbych’s casual approach. Using their forward strength, the home side worked up to the try line and crossed for an unconverted try just on half time.
The second half started much as the fist had ended with Colwyn Bay in the ascendancy and Dinbych guilty of some loose and sloppy play. Dinbych then regained their composure and a well worked back move saw them move into the Colwyn Bay 22 metre line. Harri Evans broke away from a maul and ran in Dinbych’s sixth. With the weather conditions deteriorating to driving hail, the game inevitably became scrappy. The Bay defence fumbled a loose ball and James Fisher Jones managed to get a foot to the ball to punt it ahead. He won the chase to ground the ball to the right of the post. Josh Morris’s conversion proved to be the last act of the game as both coaching teams agreed with the referee that conditions were too poor to continue.
Dinbych then end the year on a high but face a stern challenge in the New Year when they face Llandudno at Caeau les Phillips on 8 January. Llandudno are currently unbeaten this season and were the last side to inflict a defeat on Dinbych when they played in September. The game should give a useful indication of how far Dinbych have progressed since then.

Colwyn Bay Under 12's 17- Denbigh Under 12's 22
Due to Christmas commitments the Bay blooded several of their extended squad members at Denbigh. In what can only be described as a bog there was little chance for any running rugby. Denbigh started brightly and the forwards were slow to warm to the task of tackling and competing at the rucks. Despite playing uphill Denbigh scored first. This spurred the team into action with the Bay replying via stand off Sam Earl-Jones and number 8 Sion Edwards.
Ruby Roberts and Sion Edwards continued some good work in the tight during the second half. Due to the conditions the back line were largely redundant. Playing down the hill Denbigh scored two well taken tries. With legs tiring the Bay fought their way back up the pitch. Will Opie nearly broke through on two occasions before Sam Earl –Jones crashed over in the corner. It was a case of too little too late.
Man of the match goes to Sion Edwards for a committed display at number 8.

Colwyn Bay Under 15 29 v Denbigh Under 15 0
The Bay signed off the year on a high note with a match which was much harder than the score suggests. Denbigh RFC are very well represented a regional level with a strong set of forwards and these teams played recently on the 6th November and only 5 points seperated them in a very tight game at Denbigh.Due to the festive season Denbigh were slightly short on numbers but high on endeavour and quality and the Bay sportingly gave one of the Bay best junior flankers Denbigh Nial Doherty Flanker and Adam Stroud the Bay Under 15s Number 8 to add real bite to their pack and keep the Bay on their toes.
The Bay opened with a great salvo of attacking rugby and were immediately in the Denbigh 22m.It was the Bay tight head forward David Edwards who playing like a back row got through on the Denbigh 5 metre defensive line out and taking two brave Denbigh tacklers with him over the line for an unconvertred try after 4 minutes. The Bay backs were not to be outdone and Jake Wilson Inside Centre scored a good solo try from 40 metres under the posts which was converted by Iwan Coghlan after 15 mins.Denbigh were not going to pushed around all day by the Bay front row (Jordan Edward, Jacob Weigh and David Big “D” Edwards) playing out of their skins)and they upped the team effort and had the Bay deep in their own half. However aggressive defensive tackling by the Bay by both backs and forwards with Tom Jones Flanker,Thomas Studlow Poole,Nicholas Ingham again putting their body on the line, kept Denbigh hard working forwards (now led magnifiently by Nial Doherty who by now made himself Denbigh pack leader), out of the danger zone. The Bay 2011-12 season try machine and Captain Harri Chinery Parkes capitalised on some good smooth passing and the occassional Denbigh missed tackles ran in two good tries just before half time to make the score 24: nil at half time.
In the second half the Bay played some lovely rugby in difficult pitch conditions moving the ball to the Wings where ever possible and supporting the ball runner and if it was not for some brave Denbigh tackling the score could have been higher.Denbigh dug in and tackled manfully but the pace of the Bay backs was to hot to handle with Olly Wood Winger on fire.New boy Luke Hughes Winger added to his try count(now moving as fast as his national UK Go Kart) and out paced every body and score in the corner after 45 minutes which went unconverted.Other flowing movements in the second half by the Bay backs Iwan Coghlan,Remy Sheil, Connah Harding,Olly Wood,Connah Harvey and Scott Kane were stopped near the line by great work by the Denbigh covering tacklers.
The game was stopped five minutes short of time as the weather detiorated with heavy hail stones. A quick Captain and Referee on pitch discussion mutually decided the game was terminated which was followed by a mass sprint to the changing rooms to get out of the hail stones.
Today the Bay Men of the Match are all in the front row of i.e. Jordan Edwards Loose Head Prop, Jacob Weigh Hooker, and David Edwards Tight Head Prop. The scrum was rock solid, and the line out went well with Jordan Edwards pinching the ball on two occassions from two well worked short line out moves by Denbigh. The front row of the scrum is a tough place to be and both sets of boys in the Colwyn Bay and Denbigh colours showed that the Front Row Union is in good shape for many years to come.
