Another thrilling bonus points win for Pwllheli which clinched the Division One North title and back to back championship for the Llyn side, pipping arch rivals Nant Conwy by a point at the top of the table.
The game was allowed to flow by referee Andrew Davies and in the first ten minutes one successful penalty kick each for Ryan Pike of Llandudno and Osian Parry Jones for Pwllheli gave a 3-3 score before the visitors opened a gap with centre Dafydd Anwyl and No 8 Tom Parry touch downs,
the latter try converted together, and another penalty kick from Jones to give a score of 18-3 in favour of Pwllheli inside thirty minutes.
The home team, however, were not discouraged and fought back bravely to earn two penalties which Pike converted to give a half time score of 9-18 and a Pwllheli player in the sin-bin at the interval.
The second half was as exciting as the first and it was the home side who dominated the third quarter with an opening try after just four minutes from wing Huw Griffith and a further try from lively flanker Bobby Davies on twenty minutes, both converted by Pike. In between, both teams earned a penalty each which were converted and by now Llandudno were ahead 26 - 21.
The Pwllheli players realised the severity of the situation and were rejuvenated on resumption of play and within three minutes, Jones had succeeded with another penalty attempt and five minutes later outside half John Pugh side stepped his way from mid field and finished his run between the post for an easy conversion for Jones.
Having re-gained the lead, the visitors went further ahead when Dafydd Anwyl scrambled over the line for his second and bonus gaining try and Jones duly conerted to give a 38 - 26 score.
Llandudno were not finished and came back again and two minutes before the final whistle, full back Pike spotted a gap in the Pwllheli defence to touch down for the third home try and he added the extras to give a final score of 38 - 33.
In the last month, Pwllheli have played six re-arranged matches, one at home against Nant Conwy and five away games and have won all of them scoring 199 points - 97 against and 26 tries - 11 against, and dropping one league point out of a possible thirty . An excellent effort by the players and coaches who deserve all the credit and congratulations they have received.
