Following report kindly supplied by Dinbych RFC.
After conceding an early try Dinbych gradually took control to lead narrowly at half time and then they put Llanidloes to the sword in the second half when they scored seven unanswered tries for another bonus point victory. Yet this was no pushover and it was Dinbych's excellent blitz defence which laid the foundation for the win as it blunted Llanidloes' main threat, thwarting the hosts attacking intent at source.
The Dinbych pack provided the platform for many of the scores which came directly from scrums or at the line out where lock Gareth Beach dominated. As a result the visiting backs again took the scoring honours with right wing Aidyn Jones crossing for four tries and man of the match full back Gruff Roberts crossing for a brace but the pick of the bunch was the one by flanker and skipper Narmer El Lamie which was the result of high class combined play.
Both teams had chances in an evenly fought opening ten minutes but it was Llanidloes who opened the scoring in the 12th minute when they attacked deep into the Dinbych 22 where the visitors conceded a penalty under their posts. Llanidloes opted to take a scrum from which they attacked near to the set piece for No 8 Gareth Anwyl to force his way over for a try converted by outside half Adam Price.
Dinbych replied midway through the half when centre Mat Husle broke through the middle from half way before slipping an inside pass to Aidyn Jones who outflanked the defence to score under the posts leaving an easy conversion for outside half Dan O'Sullivan. Half backs Garin Roberts and Dan O'Sullivan continually turned defence into attacking situations for Dinbych through their astute kicking. Dinbych eventually took the lead five minutes before the interval after an incisive attack with Gruff Roberts taking play into the Llanidloes 22 before the ball was recycled and good handling by back rowers Narmer El Lamie and Dafydd Jones led to prop Peter Shoosmith giving the scoring pass for left wing Kieran Bonar to hare over in the corner for an unconverted try.
Leading by 12 points to 7 at the interval Dinbych increased this early in the second half with a gem of a try initiated with a long driving maul from a line out on the right by the forwards. When it was eventually halted deep in the 22 the ball was swiftly moved cross field by the backs with Gruff Roberts only stopped close to the line by desperate defence. The ball was then recycled in-field for Dan O'Sullivan to launch a cross kick to the opposite corner where Narmer El Lamie caught it in full flow to go over for an unconverted try .
Dinbych were now in rampant mood and went further ahead when Gruff Roberts went over for a try in the corner to finish off excellent handling by the midfield backs after the Dinbych pack had pressurised the home unit at a scrum near the Llanidloes line. Dan O'Sullivan converted with a well judged kick from wide out. Centre Tom Seddon then went over for a try after Dinbych turned over possession at a maul 40 metres out with hooker Chris Forshaw acting as the vital link and then Dan O'Sullivan and Mat Hulse combining in midfield. This was again converted by Dan O'Sullivan.
Dinbych's next try was initiated from a solid scrum 40 metres out with No 8 Liam Allsup Jones giving scrum half Garin Roberts the room to commit two defenders before releasing Aidyn Jones on an outflanking run to go over for the first of his second half hat trick of tries. Tom Seddon was again prominent in the next try as Dinbych counter attacked from a relieving kick with excellent inter-passing between Dan O'Sullivan , Gruff Roberts and Tom Seddon allowing Aidyn Jones to round the defence and score under the posts.
Aidyn Jones completed his second half hat trick initiating from a maul inside the home 22 with replacements Joe Davies and Dan Lawrence handling well in midfield and Peter Shoosmith again providing the scoring pass. Gruff Roberts closed the scoring with his second try with an elusive run after good work by replacement flanker James Rowse at a lineout on the Llanidloes 22. Dan O'Sullivan converted the last two with excellent kicks from wide out.
The most pleasing aspect of this excellent team performance for coaches Russ Rowlands and Huw Edwards was the seamless introduction and play of the second half replacements Alun Davies, Dan Lawrence, Joe Davies and James Rowse and also the grafting work of John Winning playing out of position in the second row.
