O’r ail ddechrau, trawyd y bêl gan Yr Wyddgrug a bu i Nant ennill pêl gyflwym gyda Ifan, yr hannerwr yn osgoi tair tacl i sgorio o dan y pyst gyda Delwyn yn trosi. Wow! What a pre-Christmas cracker of a match!
Mold leading 32 – 17 at the break but not scoring any points during the second half as Nant scored another 17 points to win the excellent match!
The home side played with the strong wind in the first half and went ahead after 2 minutes as a result of a penalty.. From the re-start, a Mold player fumbled the ball and knocked on. From the set scrum, Scrum half, Ifan Jones gathered the ball and evaded three attempted tackles to find a clear path to touch down beneath the posts – a try that Centre, Delwyn Jones converted. The lead changed after 8 minutes when Mold were awarded a penalty try which was easily converted. Only fifteen minutes had elapsed when the scores were levelled t 10 – 10 as Delwyn Jones converted a penalty.
A quarter way through the match, Ifan Jones again evaded loose tackling and this time he sent Delwyn Jones through on another clear path to score a try beneath the posts. Delwyn duly made it a seven pointer! Nant were reduced to 13 men towards the end of the first half for team infringements. During this period, Mold capitalised by scoring two tries through left winger, Luke Jones, converted by Martin (17 – 17) after 26 minutes and by no. 4, Chris Ellis after 32 minutes. This conversion attempt failed. But martin made up for that miss with a successful penalty after 37 minutes.
On the last play of the 1st Hals, outside half, Jenner, took full advantage of the uneven number of players to touch down under the posts for Martin to convert and give a 32 – 17 score at half time!
Sion Pringle (no.10 showed how fleet footed he is at the onset of the second half as he jinxed his way through the home defence to touch down with Delwyn making it a 7 point score. After 10 minutes the ‘bonus point’ try arrived as the Nant pack was continually mauling down the pitch with lock, Carwyn Roberts eventually touching the ball down for a try. Young replacement scrum half took over the place kicking duties and brought Nant Conwy back within 1 point of the home score.
Nant continued with the same tactic for the remainder of the match – keeping the ball tight amongst the forwards but, time was slipping fast without a further score. The match Official indicated that there would be 6 minutes of ‘extra time’. Three of those had elapsed when Nant were awarded a penalty for a home defender entering a ruck ‘from the side’. Cai Jones was totally composed, belying his young age, in slotting the ball over the crossbar to put Nant ahead.
Try as they might, Mold were not to be allowed to score again with the visiting fifteen ensuring that no penalties were given away and that tackles were successful! Thus Nant completed the Division 1 matches for 2014 with a 5 point advantage at the top.
Nant’s next match will be a Division 1 North match at home against Bethesda on Saturday, 3rd January 2015.

Bro Ffestiniog 24 v 12 Denbigh
Following report kindly supplied by Bro Ffestiniog RFC.
While both these clubs lie at the bottom of Division 1 North their League positions does not reflect the quality of rugby and commitment displayed this week at Cae Dolawel. Pre-match the hosts were four points adrift of their visitors but by the end of a hard fought and highly entertaining encounter Edwyn Roberts men would come out on top with a bonus point win.
There were notable displays from Bro's scrum half Aron Roberts keeping his team on the front foot while Denbigh's flanker Gavin Rizzi was outstanding in the loose winning turnover after turnover.
Within two minutes Denbigh were awarded a kickable penalty but opted for a lineout, the big pack 's driving maul taking them very close but Bro stole turnover ball and cleared.
The first score came soon after, Denbigh were awarded a scrum on Bro's 10m line and a 8-9-14 move finished off by wing Huw Mars Jones which went unconverted.
The next fifteen minutes was played more or less between the 10m lines neither team gaining any advantage or possession over the other.
Bro were then awarded a penalty and chose to kick for touch. From the ensuing lineout quick ball off the top saw centre Dewi Atherton crossing the gain line and putting his centre partner Aron Aspen clean through but the pass went astray and the chance gone.
Denbigh were then penalised for offside on their own 22 but Aspen's penalty kick went painfully wide of the posts.
The final ten minutes of the half was very entertaining, firstly Bro levelled the score from a lineout inside the visitors 22, after rucking well towards the try line and recycling quick ball hooker Aron Hughes crossing over for a try which also went unconverted. Immediately from the re-start Denbigh re-took the lead after pressurising Bro into knocking on and from a scrum on Bro's 10m line a well worked move from the backs included an inside pass by fly half Llion Edwards put Mars Jones through to claim his second with Edwards adding the conversion.
Bro tried to hit back but as referee Gareth Edwards blew for half time the visitors went into the break with a seven point lead.
As they did last week Bro started the second half with much more intensity and within eight minutes all the pressure paid off when Denbigh's centre Matt Hulse was sin binned for a deliberate knock on. Bro capitalised on their advantage and soon closed the gap through flanker Rhodri Williams who pounced on the ball before diving over the try line to claim his first of two tries - fly half Mathew Hayden unable to add the extras.
With their tails up the hosts kept the pressure on and went close once more but for another handling error letting them down.
Bro were then penalised for offside just outside their own 22 but Edwards failed to increase the visitors slender two point lead.
In the last quarter of the match Bro displayed the type of rugby they have been trying to play all season. Strong running, good support play and inter passing between forwards and backs, with quick recycling of the ball culminating in two quick tries.
Ffestiniog took the lead from a scrum on the half way, number 8 Dewi James combining well with Scrum half Roberts who offloaded to flanker Gethin Jones only to be tackled on the try line, Bro recycled quickly through 3 phases with prop Tom James crashing over for a try converted by Aspen.
The bonus point try was manufactured by man of the match Aron Roberts, Bro were awarded a scrum just inside Denbigh's half, Roberts gathered the ball and powered his way towards the try line evading would be tacklers before offloading to Williams who crashed over and claimed his second under the posts with an easy conversion for Aspen.
The final five minutes saw Denbigh pressurising deep into Bro's 22. The visitors upped their game and went for the loosing bonus point, wave after wave they attacked the home try line but Bro held firm eventually winning turnover ball and kicking for touch.
Denbigh next entertain Llandudno while a resurgent Bro, now off the bottom of the league, will travel to Dolgellau - one place above them, both matches scheduled for Saturday January 3rd should not be missed.
Ruthin 27 v Pwllheli 28
Following report kindly supplied by Ruthin RFC.
With both Ruthin and Pwllheli lying 2nd and 3rd in the table this was a key match for both teams to keep in contention for the title.
Ruthin started strongly and were unfortunate not to go ahead with a try judged as being held up and then a penalty goal opportunity missed. However it was the visitors who went 10 points up with Ianto Parri jigging past three Ruthin players for a try converted by Osian Parry Jones who a few minutes later kicked a penalty goal.
Almost straight away Blues centre Steffan Morgan burst through the Pwllheli defence for a try converted by fly half Callum Bennett.
Ruthin’s pressure continued and they went ahead for the first time in the game with a try by Ben Taylor. The home sides 1 point lead was not to last long however as just before half time Deio Brunelli capitalised on the visitors pressure to nip past Ruthin defenders for an unconverted try.
The whistle blew for half time with Pwllheli leading 18-12. After the break Ruthin were struggling to get out of their own 22 and Pwllheli went further ahead with Parry Jones going over for an unconverted try.
The Blues reduced the arrears with a penalty goal from Bennett but with the visitors aggressive in the breakdown forcing errors from the home side pinned in their own 22 it was only a matter of time before Pwllheli went further ahead.
Robin Hughes Jones obliged with an unconverted try putting them 28-15 ahead with their bonus point try. With 15 minutes to go the Blues finally found some form and wing Sion T Roberts took advantage of pressure from a good Ruthin scrum in the visitors 22 to score an unconverted try.
The Blues attacking play continued and scrum half Will Mitchelmore forced himself over the whitewash for a the Blues bonus point try which Bennett converted.
With the score at 28-27 to Pwllheli it looked like Ruthin might just steal a win but it was all too late, Pwllheli’s defence held and the whistle blew for full time with no further score after an exciting match.
