Wedi hanner awr o chwarae bu i gapten Nant, Carwyn dderbyn pas o hyrddiad gan y pac, ar yr ochr dywyll a phlymio trosodd yn y gornel dde. Aflwyddiannus fu holl giciau Nant at y pyst drwy’r prynhawn! Pedwar munud yn ddiweddarach gyda Chaernarfon i lawr i 14 dyn oherwydd cerdyn melyn, bu bac cryf Nant wthio sgrym 5 dros y llinell a Charwyn yn codi wedi tirio’r bêl. Tros y funud nesaf, derbyniodd dau o chwaraewyr Nant gardiau melyn ac ar eiliad olaf yr hanner bu i’r ‘hen ben’ , Gwil (Hendy) sgorio cais ar y gornel dde i’r tîm cartref – un a droswyd yn hyfryd gan Lance Owen i roi sgôr 0 7 – 10 ar yr hanner.
Gyda Nant yn parhau gyda 13 chwarewr ar ddechrau’r ail hanner, aeth y Cofis ar y blaen gyda chais hyfryd ger y pyst gan Gethin wedi 6 munud. Troswyd hwn eto yn gadael Caernarfon ar y blaen am y tro cyntaf. Ond, nid oedd Carwyn wedi gorffen ac unwaith eto, ar yr ochr dywyll cododd y bêl i fyny i sgorio cais (ei drydydd cais o’r gêm) wedi 13 munud i roi Nant yn ôl ar y blaen! (14 – 15). Dau funud yn ddiweddarach, aeth y tîm cartref ar y blaen 17 -15 wedi i Lance hollti’r pyst gyda chic gosb. Deng munud oedd ar ôl, pan sgoriodd Grant, a newidiodd safle o rif 15 i rif 10, gyda chais hyfryd yn y gornel. Munud yn unig oedd yn weddill, pan fu i’r eilydd, Eryl, ddangos ei fedr arferol fel bachwr i godi’n sydyn o hyrddiad gan y pac, codi’r bêl a deifio trosodd am sgôr olaf Nant. Ceisiodd Caernarfon ennill pwynt bonws trwy gyrraedd o mewn 7 i sgôr Nant yn yr eiliadau olaf ond aflwyddiannuss fu’r ymdrech arbennig hon. Sgôr derfynol o 17 – 25 felly gyda phwynt bonwas i Nant am sgorio pum cais.
On another dry and fine afternoon, it was the home team, playing up the famous Morfa slope, who dominated play during the first quarter. But, they did not score during this period and the Nant team gained confidence. After half an hour, Carwyn, the Captain, picked the ball up from the base of a ruck and darted over on the blind side for a try! All of Nant’s attempts at goal were missed during the afternoon! Four minutes later, with the home team down to 14 players following a yellow card, the strong Nant pack shoved the home pack over the try line after a scrum 5. Carwyn again was the man to touch the ball down! In the next minute, two of Nant’s players received yellow cards and the ‘veteran’ Gwil (Hendy) took advantage on the stroke of half time to finish off a move with a try in the right corner – a try that was beautifully converted by Lance making a half time score of 7 – 10.
With Nant starting the second period with 13 men, winger Gethin took full advantage to score a try by the posts which Lance easily converted after 6 minutes play. Thus, Caernarfon went ahead for the first time. But, Carwyn was not satisfied with that score and again, he scored his third try of the match with another blind side move after 13 minutes. A change of score to 14 – 15 again! Two minutes later, the lead changed again when Lance split the posts with a penalty to give a score of 17 -15. Only 10 minutes remained when Grant, who had altered his position from full back to fly half scored a really good try in the corner. Then, with a minute of the 80 minutes left, substitute hooker, Eryl, showed his sharpness and tenacity in gaining a quick ball from a ruck and darting over for a try. In the extra time allowed, Caernarfon attempted a place kick for a penalty but it skewed just wide of the posts leaving the final result as 17 – 25 with no bonus points for the home team and 1 bonus point for nant (scoring 4 or more tries).

COBRA 10 v Ruthin 19
Following report kindly supplied by Ruthin RFC.
Ruthin were away to COBRA in Division 1 North on Saturday and with both sides having started the season with a win the match was set up to be a competitive affair.
It was a game of strong defences and although both sides can play fast open rugby virtually every attacking move from either side was stifled out before the whitewash was reached.
COBRA went ahead after 10 minutes with a penalty goal but they then conceded 4 first half penalty goals themselves, all kicked by fly half Callum Bennett, as they tried to contain the Blues attack.
Although the Blues were in the lead, COBRA were very much in the game. Their backs attempted to run through Blues defence but it held solid and penalty goals made up the 12-3 advantage that the Blues had at the break.
The second half started with a sustained COBRA attack but the visitors withstood this and then turned the tables to take the game to the home side.
COBRA’s defence was ferocious and they repeatedly knocked the Blues back from scrums and lineouts a few yards from their line. Eventually the pressure told and centre Harri Morgan forced his way through the home defence to score between the posts with Bennett adding the conversion.
With the score at 19-3 to Ruthin and around 20 minutes to go it was COBRA’s turn to go on the offensive. Initially the Blues defence held but after going down to 14 men because of a high tackle sin-bin, COBRA took advantage of the extra man to break through the defence for a converted try.
Although both sides had chances in the last 10 minutes, defences were again dominant and there was no further score with the Blues winning 19-10.
RGC 30 v Bargoed 34
Following report kindly supplied by Scott Lawson, RGC.
RGC were left to rue 2 minutes of madness in the 2nd half, after putting in a big performance against Bargoed.
Two Minutes of Madness
After going into the 2nd half 12- 17 down, RGC gifted the visitors a try with an interception from a loose James Lang pass as the game kicked off. The Gogs didn’t even get a chance to recover before the visitors went over for another try minutes later to a stunned Eirias support.
Head Coach Chris Horsman took a positive in the teams character “Of course I am hugely disappointed in the result, but I am proud of the players performance. The boys played the game with maturity to manage the game, but it was 2 mad minutes with the interception and a throw over the top from the line out cost us.
The style of rugby, our resilience and the maturity of the performance is credit to the players today. I thought Kelvin led the team like a colossus today and Alex Schwarz brings a spark and zip to our game.
Considering we chipped a big score away last season, it shows how far we have come and I truly feel something special is being built here.”
RGC began brightly with the pack working hard, and scrum half Alex Schwarz hit the gainline to break through to score the opening try.
The visitors then looked to get back into the game and were trying to build on the phases and it wasn’t a surprise to see Phil Price going over with Prosser scoring the conversion.
Bargoed then picked up another try after breaking down a Gogs attack. James Prosser again hitting the conversion.
The RGC pack again were winning the arm wrestle in the scrum and a big push against the head got a cheer from the Eirias crowd. The Gog support knew the effort needed against an strong Bargoed forward unit, and man for man the RGC pack didn’t disappoint.
The cheers continued with Huw Grundy going over the line, when the Ap Myrddin brothers fed the ball to the centre to power over. The right pass at the right time, was a complete difference to last week’s poor passing decisions, which would have pleased the coaching staff. James Lang knocked over the conversion.
The boot of Prosser ended the half when hit scored a penalty for a 17-12 lead.
The opening 5 minutes of the 2nd half were the crucial moments of the game, but for the remaining 35 minutes RGC played attacking and clever rugby.
RGC needed some points on the board and James Lang kicked two penalties to move the scoreboard on.
The referee dished out a few yellow cards to Bargoed and the infringements continued around the breakdown. It was clearly difficult for the referee to get a hold of everything on the pitch, including an off the ball incident where Kelvin Davies was struck from behind when he was on the floor. Bargoed tactics were clearly seen as the game progressed, RGC continued to play all the rugby.
The momentum was now with the home side and after a big drive the Gogs went over for a try given to Kelvin Davies but Lang failed to convert the added points.
The kicking of Prosser again dented the RGC attacks, as the fly-half put another penalty over the posts with a pressure kick.
Bargoed went to uncontested scrums with 2 players in the sin bin, and after Andy Baston and Davies tried to puncture the defence with power, it was the sublime skill of Tom Blackwell to get the bonus point try. His feet went one way and the Bargoed tackler went the other way, before the winger dived behind the posts making it a simple Lang conversion.
The Eirias crowd were making more noise than ever, trying to push the players on to close the 4 point difference and they were nearly raising the roof as Grundy and Blackwell both broke the line before being chased down.
Ultimately it wasn’t enough after putting everything on the line to run down a 19 point gap after 45 minutes, matching Bargoed on the try count, those 2 minutes at the start of the 2nd proved crucial.
Wick 0 v Llandrindod Wells 70
Following report kindly supplied by Llandrindod RFC.
This Wick side was a shadow of their former selves but, to their great credit, they never gave up and provided a competitive edge throughout the game.
Non-competitive scrums because Wick did not have a proper front row provided them with some good attacking chances and nullified somewhat Llandrindod's power up-front. However, this did not stop the visitors running in 12 tries, with 5 being converted.
Llandrindod's try scorers were three from full back Paul Griffiths, and a brace each from second row Dan Oakley, hooker Aled Price and wing Martin Davies, with centre Stephen Boore, No 8 and skipper Geraint Evans, and stand-off Danny Davies each contributing a try. Davies kicked five conversions.
This win propels Llandrindod to the top of the League.
On Saturday Llandrindod host Llanrumney in the League in what will inevitably prove to be a stern test for Llandrindod.
