Llandudno Pier to Mold Rugby Club - ambitious but the Mold Juniors are ready for the challenge.
The Junior Section took on an ambitious fundraising event to involve the players, parents and the community. Why not score the ‘longest try’ in North Wales?
Involving the players of the U13s, U14s and U15s age groups, the players will run a relay, in pairs, from Llandudno pier to Mold RFC on Saturday 13th May.
All funds raised for this event will go towards the Junior Section for their annual rugby tour in 2018.
Each age group will run approximately 15 miles for a total of 45 miles, primarily along the coastal path. Adult chaperones are accompanying each runner either on mountain bike or on foot. Extensive scouting has taken place to identify the safety of the route and entrance and exit points for the participants.
The U13s will start the relay at approximately 08.15 from Llandudno Pier. Players will run between .8 miles and 1.8 miles along their allocated section, passing the ball to the next pair. Each age group is expected to take 2.5 hours to run their 15 mile section.
The U14s take over at Rhyl and this age group will run to Bagillt in Flintshire. The U15s will then have the most difficult section as they run much of the route uphill into Mold.
All the players will gather at the Lead Mills grounds across from County Hall in Mold, at 4:30 and the players from all 3 age groups will run the ball together across the Alyn River onto the Club’s Main Pitch and score the ‘longest try’. The only female player, Tilly Bennett from the U13s, has been nominated to ‘score the try’. WRU rules mean that Tilly can no longer play with a mixed team, therefore this has been her last season with her teammates.
We expect many a thirsty and hungry group – who will celebrate at the Clubhouse with a Family BBQ. There are 60 players taking part in the relay run.
Players have been asked to each raise a minimum of £10 in sponsorship money and parents and the community have been approached to place adverts in this keepsake programme.
Asda in Kinmel Bay have kindly allowed the U13s and the U14s to bag-pack on the day – further adding to our fundraising efforts. The U14s will take the morning shift and the U13s the afternoon shift. The U15s will be bag-packing in Tesco Mold on Sun 7th May.
After all of this activity and the welcoming BBQ, the annual presentation event is happening at the Clubhouse where the age groups celebrate their season with awarding trophies for: Players’ Player, Coaches’ Player and Most Improved.
This is the grand finale of our 2016-2017 Season.
