Nant Conwy 20-9 Bala
Nant Conwy secured the North Wales Cup after overcoming Bala in a game that never really got going, despite the efforts of both sides.
For long periods, the two sides held each other at arm’s length, with two strong defences putting attacking chances at a premium.
The first score came the way of Nant, who took a 3-0 lead inside the opening 10 minutes from a penalty kick. Bala responded with a penalty of their own, before Nant took advantage of a period of pressure to claim their first try in the 23rd minute.
Before the half hour mark, they had crossed for their second try, putting them in a commanding 13-3 lead. Bala kept themselves in the hunt with their second penalty, and at 13-6, they were still in with a chance at the break.
The second half was a frustrating spectacle, with both teams putting together phases of play before spilling or losing the ball, with Bala coming out on top of the opening dozen minutes, with a third penalty putting them within 4 points at 13-9.
After a failed penalty effort from Bala, Nant Conwy completed their scoring. After hitting the post with a drop goal attempt, the ball was eagerly snapped up for their third try, which was converted for a 20-9 lead.
Despite a secure lead, Nant were never able to get comfortable in the game, and Bala were never able to find a way to take advantage of their time on the ball, and despite the obvious effort being put in by both sides, there were no further scores.
