WRU Development Officer for Gogledd Cymru South, Dai Higgs, explains...
Ladies and Gents,
This year North Wales will have 3 representative teams in the National Schools U15 rugby competition (Dewar Shield). Gogledd Cymru South, Gogledd Cymru East & Gogledd Cymru West. This is an important step forward for North Wales Rugby. It allows more players opportunities to prove themselves in a National competition, and with increased exposure and experience gained, their opportunities at U16 Regionally and Nationally will be increased. This decision has been made thanks to the higher priority the WRU are giving this competition, the support that Welsh Schools are showing to North Wales, the continuing canvassing by North Wales and the success of last seasons Gogledd Cymru U15’s winning the Amdahl Bowl.
The 3 teams will be headed up by their own Rugby Development Officer, with myself Dai Higgs being in charge of Gogledd Cymru South. GCS U15’s will be made up of players from 5 South Gwynedd schools and 6 North Powys schools, plus the support of the clubs in the area. We have already had successful Parents/Players evening where the season was outlined to over 70 attendees. Training will continue every Wednesday throughout the season at several venues, and we have been drawn home to Rhondda, Neath and away to Islwyn and Pontypridd. We will start our campaign at home to Rhondda on Saturday 8th October.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you want further information

Dai Higgs
