Following report kindly supplied by Sam Jones, Denbigh RFC.
Following a difficult campaign in the North Wales 2nds League - Eastern Division, Clwb Rygbi Dinbych's 2nds restarted the 2015/16 season within the newly created 'Championship' division.
The new campaign started with a heavy defeat at local rivals Ruthin, before Dinbych found some good form to claim a bonus point victory over Dolgellau RFC at Caeau Les Phillips.
With 6 Nations fixtures taking up most of February , the 2nds played no rugby until the beginning of March, when a scratch team of 15 travelled to Dolgellau in a tough 17-8 loss against the men in blue.
April saw the 2nds back in action regularly, the first opponent of the month were Abergele at Pentre Mawr. A good blend of youth and experience saw the men in red return to Caeau Les Phillips with a hard earned bonus point win.
A Thursday night thriller saw Dinbych host local rivals Ruthin in a nail biting encounter at Caeau Les Phillips, a late try for the Blues giving them a 2 point lead at the final whistle.
Dinbych's next fixture saw them travel to Bethesda RFC for a League double header, a key game for both side's as they looked to keep up with league leaders Ruthin. Once again Dinbych would travel with only 15 players, a mix of experienced elders and exuberant youngsters. The blend worked a treat with the Dinbych returning to Caeau Les Phillips with a bonus point victory.
The 2nd team's season came to a close at Caeau Les Phillips, a strong Abergele side the visitors in what would be a pivotal game for Clwb Rygbi Dinbych. The tough encounter ended with the Home team banking a 4 try bonus point as well as the win, this saw Dinbych leap frog Ruthin RFC to the summit of the North Wales 2nds League - Championship.
At the close of the season Dinbych remained at the top of the Championship and today were announced as the winners of the inaugural North Wales 2nds League - Championship.
Congratulations to 2nd Team Captain Simon Robertshaw and his Players, Team Managers David Lowe and Ivor Williams, a great reward for completing all 18 League fixtures over the course of this season.
