Lions win at New Field
With a picture perfect setting and early morning sunlight bathing the pitch, St Davids College and Rydal Penrhos reacquainted themselves with a rivalry that spans both schools history.
The game started with both teams probing and defences being tested, and it was Rydal who nearly stuck first with a well executed move from the scrum Only to be held up on the line by a superb tackle by the St Davids winger.
The first try came through doughty centre Riley, fast becoming know for his show and go 5 nil to the Lions.
The rest of the game was played with great physicality and the St Davids back row dominated the contact area, well led by Captain Jones who showed the way with a phenomenal display.
Mid way through the second half St Davids physical fitness and contact dominance paid dividen with Rydal struggling to keep pace with the speed and commitment of the St Davids team. This was exemplified by a stint of try line defence that kept the score to nil, this tenacity, belief and dedication is becoming a hall mark of the 2019 team.
Despite three yellow cards to the visiting team the game was played in a fair and competitive spirit.
Try’s came from live wire back row Cotterall. Davies in the centres with a silky show and go and replacement Liptrot. Roberts adding two conversions. 29 nil the final score.
The team now jelling well and learning to execute its systems well. The best is yet to come from this young group of Lions.
