Full filled feast of rugby at Swalec Finals Day on Monday, 2nd May
Plans are in place for SWALEC Finals Day to be a fun-filled festival of rugby. Along with the three games, with teams from across the SWALEC League and the Principality Premiership fighting it out for the top Cup silverware in Welsh club rugby, there is a lot more in store for rugby fans of all ages.
Senghennydd and Maesteg Quins have made it through to the SWALEC Bowl Final and will battle it out in the first match of the day at 1pm.
Glynneath and Ammanford are in the SWALEC Plate Final and will take to the field at 3.15pm, before Pontypridd take on Aberavon in the SWALEC Cup Final at 6.30pm.
But the funs all starts at 12 noon in the special activity area being created behind Gate 3 of the Millennium Stadium which will be turned into a family friendly activity area, with face painters, balloon modellers, a bucking rugby ball and children’s entertainers.
The activities will also be taking place on the stadium concourses throughout the day.
Britain’s Got Talent contestant Aubrey will be singing in the stands with fans in Karaoke style throughout the day, while Wales stars James Hook and Leigh Halfpenny will take to the field between games for a kicking competition. Two SWALEC League players will join the Wales players on the hallowed turf of the Millennium Stadium, and to have a chance of being one of those individuals, SWALEC League players from any club can apply by simply logging on to www.wru.co.uk/kickwiththestars
Hook and Halfpenny will also hold an autograph signing session after the kicking competitions, and there will also be tag rugby throughout the day with junior teams representing the finalists.
Meanwhile, Wales stars Shane Williams, Tavis Knoyle and Will Harries have taken time out of their busy schedule to give the SWALEC Bowl, Plate and Cup finalists a boost as they prepare for the SWALEC Finals Day on Monday 2 May.
As part of the build-up for the big day, WRU TV sent the players along to club training sessions to get a feel for the excitement of the occasion. The preview videos can be seen on www.wru.co.uk and will be shown on the day on the Millennium Stadium big screens.
Shane Williams has visited one of his local sides Ammanford, while Tavis Knoyle has dropped in on Glynneath and Maesteg Quins and Will Harries has visited Pontypridd. Aberavon and Senghennydd will record their chat with a Wales player when representatives of their clubs visit the Millennium Stadium for the Finals Day photo call on Wednesday.
Former Glynneath player Knoyle said, “I’ve been watching Glynneath all season and they’ve been on fire.
“I’ll be in the stand with the rest of the Glynneath supporters on the day. The boys can give me some tips about playing at the Millennium Stadium because I haven’t played there yet!”
