A look at Rugby in North Wales after 3 months of the present season
1st Division
Already, Division 1 appears to be splitting into several sub-groups.
At the top end, we have both Bethesda and Llandudno doing well and I prophesy that these sides will be occupying the first two places in the final League table at the end of the season. If the ‘Howgets’ beat the ‘Goats’ on the coast later on, then, an unexpected loss of a match here or there could be a heavy price to pay for either team in the race for the championship. Thus, an exciting and interesting battle will occupy our thoughts over the next weeks and months. One question is whether the Bethesda squad is strong enough to deal with a few injuries that could come prevalent!
The second group is Ruthin, Nant, Pwllheli and Bala. I do not feel that this will be the final order of placings in the final table. All four sides can win against each other easily with the ‘home’ advantage being relevant and sure to have an effect on full time scores. I prophesy that Nant, Ruthin, Bala, Pwllheli will occupy positions 3 to 6 eventually but, there again, injuries to one or more players, work responsibilities etc. could have an effect in this section as well. Another interesting situation!
We now come to the third group: Llangefni, Caernarfon and Denbigh. On their day, all three teams can give a real challenge to all of the teams in the other sub-groups, both those above and below them at the moment. But it appears that it is a lack of consistency that comes to the fore here. I have a feeling that it will be Llangefni, Denbigh, Caernarfon in that order that will occupy positions 7 to 9!
I sense that there will be several tough and hard matches towards the bottom of the table. There is concern for COBRA, especially as they do not seem to travel well. Then, both Bro and Dolgellau have experience of fighting to retain a place in Division 1 with Bro having the ability to squeeze a ‘win’ and scrape unexpected League points whilst Dolgellau have the ability to gain regular ‘losing’ bonus points and, as the famous ‘tortoise’, they persist and continue to gain League points here and there added by ‘full’ occasional League points. What is my prediction for the bottom three places? In order, I predict positions 10 to 12 being taken by Bro, Dolgellau, COBRA
Therefore, this is my final predicted League Table:
1. Llandudno
2. Bethesda
4. Nant Conwy
4. Ruthin
5. Bala
6. Pwllheli
7. Llangefni
8. Denbigh
9. Caernarfon
10. Bro Ffestiniog
11. Dolgellau
12. COBRA
Remember, this is only a light hearted attempt and I must say that I have never won anything after placing an occasional bet at the bookies! Do you agree that this will be the situation in April / May 2020? Why not let Gary Williams know your viewpoint? Email to gwcymru1@aol.com if you have any views.
In a while and assuming that I will not have been targeted too harshly by members of various Clubs in Division1, perhaps I shall prophesy similar predictions for the remaining Rugby Union Divisions in North Wales!
Ifor Glyn [Nant Conwy]Golwg ar Rygbi yng Nghogledd Cymru wedi 3 mis o’r tymor presennol
Adran 1
Yn barod, mae’r Brif Adran yn dechrau rhannu i nifer o is-rannau.
Ar y pen uchaf, mae Bethesda a Llandudno’n mynd yn dda a phroffwydaf mai dyma’r timau a fydd yn y ddau safle uchaf ar ddiwedd y tymor. Os y bydd yr ‘Howgets’ yn curo’r ‘Geifr’ ar yr arfordir yn nes ymlaen, yna, gallai colli gȇm yn annisgwyl yma ac acw fod yn bris drud i’r naill dîm neu’r llall. Brwydr ddiddorol tros yr wythnosau nesaf. Y cwestiwn mawr fydd a all carfan Bethesda ymdopi gydag un neu fwy o anafiadau all ddod i’r amlwg!
Yr ail grŵp yw Rhuthun, Nant, Pwllheli a’r Bala. Ni thybiaf mai fel hyn y byddent yn sefyll yn y tabl terfynol. Gall y pedwar tîm guro’i gilydd yn hawdd gyda mantais a chwarae ‘gartref’ yn siwr o gael effaith yn aml. Proffwydaf mai Nant, Rhuthun, Bala, Pwllheli fydd yn y safleoedd 3 i 6 yn y diwedd ond yma eto, gall anafiadau i chwaraewyr, gofynion Gwaith ag ati gael dylanwad ar y safleoedd. Sefyllfa ddifyr eto!
Yna, cawn y trydydd grŵp: Llangefni, Caernarfon a Dinbych. Ar eu diwrnod, gall y tri thîm roi her go iawn i’r holl dimau’n y ddau grŵp cyntaf heb sôn am y rhai sydd odditanynt ar y funud. Ond, ymddengys mai diffyg cysondeb sydd yn amlwg yma. Rhyw deimlad sydd gennyf mai Llangefni, Dinbych, Caernarfon yn y drefn yna fydd yn llenwi safleoedd7 i 9!
Rhagwelaf frwydr galed tua gwaelodion y tabl. Pryderaf braidd am COBRA, yn enwedig gyda’u diffyg wrth deithio oddicartref. Yna, mae gan Bro a Dolgellau brofiad o fod yn brwydro am eu lle’n Adran 1 gyda Bro gyda’r gallu i ennill ambell i gȇm a chrafu pwyntiau annisgwyl a Dolgellau gyda’r gallu o ennill pwyntiau bonws ‘colli’ yn aml ac fel y crwban enwog yn dal i fynd gan ennill ambell bwynt yma ac acw gyda phwyntiau ‘llawn’ mewn gemau eraill. Beth yw fy mhroffwydoliaeth am y tri safle isaf? Yn eu trefn, rhagwelaf safleoedd 10 i 12 yn cael eu llenwi gan Bro, Dolgellau, COBRA
Dyma fy nhabl terfynol felly:
1. Llandudno
2. Bethesda
3. Nant Conwy
4. Rhuthun
5. Bala
6. Pwllheli
7. Llangefni
8. Dinbych
9. Caernarfon
10. Bro Ffestiniog
11. Dolgellau
12. COBRA
Cofiwch mai rhyw hwyl diniwed yw hyn ac na fu imi erioed ennill wrth osod ambell fet bob hyn a hyn! A ydych chi’n cytuno mai fel yma y bydd pethau yn Ebrill / Mai 2020? Beth am adael i Gary Williams wybod eich barn? Email to gwcymru1@aol.com
Ymhen ychydig, gan gymryd na fyddaf wedi cael fy malu gan aelodau o wahanol Glybiau’n Adran 1, hwyrach y gwnaf broffwydoliaethau tebyg am weddill Cynghreiriau Rygbi Gogledd Cymru!
