They certainly look as though they've made friends for life. Another reason we love this game.
Following report from Brendan O'Malley.
Wrexham RFC went on tour to Alcala a large university town just outside Madrid. There is a connection between the two clubs with a Spanish student named Victor whom came over to study at Wrexham Glyndwr university played for a season at Wrexham RFC.
Wrexham have kept contact with Victor and decided the time was right to make the trip over to Madrid, where we were met and treated like royalty, we had a special Spanish tapas prepared for us on arrival.
We had a guided tour around the sights of Madrid and we played a very capable side on the Saturday whom at half time were leading 17-7 but once we acclimatised to the heat and through sheer determination Wrexham went through the gears and with a few late scores put a bit of a gloss on the score line, 17-52 to Wrexham.
Wrexham had a special tour shirt designed and every player carried the number 8 #Deano on his sleeve in memory of the great man. The first tour he has missed and we hopefully honoured the great man in several ways while also trying to carry on vast Wrexham Tradition on tour..
Alcala have vets teams senior teams, women’s team and a whole host of mini and junior teams also
Basically treated like royalty by the whole town and we can't thank them enough.
Ex-Wrexham player Victor Lema Bajo had this to say:
'It’s been ten years since I left Wrexham thinking one day you would come to visit my club in Spain, and so you did, perfect timing for the 50th anniversary party of my club foundation. What an incredible weekend! I think it has been beyond the expectations of everyone. I can speak for everyone in Rugby Alcala when I say you were a fantastic group, for me the best we has hosted. This kind of things make me realize Rugby isn’t just an sport, as Brendan O'malley said and I totally agree “it’s a way of life”. Thank you so much for everything, for the season ten years ago and for this great weekend. I will wear Wrexham shirt very proud. Thank you for becoming part of the history of my club and thank you for letting me be part of the history of yours'.
