The Caernarfon contingent, though depleted in numbers will be disappointed by this lacklustre display and will hope to have a few stalwarts back in the squad to face their final cup league encounter against Seven Sisters next Sunday. Whitland on the other hand were on fire, being quicker in thought and deed and had a reserve bench that would have been the envy of any current Welsh team.
The opening salvo saw Whitland recycle effectively until they were able to release wing Mari Griffiths who was able to squeeze in at the corner. Livewire Elin Hywel had been held up beyond the whitewash and fullback Cath Davies had timed her passes to perfection before flanker Natalie Walsh forced her way over after good phase play.
Wales squad player Delyth Davies proved with her all-round display from the hooker berth and her sides third try from a mid-field break that higher honours should soon ensue.
Mari Griffiths outpaced the defence to add another try before centre Jodie Evans also found a gap after reinforcements had been summoned by Caernarfon to halt a forward surge. The first half try fest was completed by Cath Davies following her timely entry into the line. Three of the tries had been successfully converted by Rebecca Norris.
The Cofis showed more resolve during the second period with the boot of Malen Williams relieving pressure and providing a platform from which to apply pressure. Sarah Williams and Erin Eifion were committed to the cause with centre Alaw Davies industrious in defence. However from the first sustained period of Whitland pressure Elin Hywel supported a blind side break and squeezed over in the corner.
With Whitland able to call upon the likes of Jenny Collins and Karen Mayze to add extra impetus and Caernarfon having tackled to a standstill it was only a matter of time before the home side were able to take advantage. Jodie Evans got her second of the day before Mayze broke clear to score and convert. Ever present Angharad Williams added her name to the try scoring list following a pass from Keeley Evans as did Natalie Walsh for her second from close range.
The final points were secured by wing Heather Rees who had been unlucky not to hold on to a number of scoring opportunities earlier.
Whitland, being cohesive and well drilled will fancy their chances in the cup competition this season with other teams hoping to avoid them until the final itself.
