The second meeting between these two sides within four days ended with Caernarfon taking the spoils but the Bala outfit was a much-changed side to that which had found the Cofis a handful on Saturday last.
In this North Wales Plate semi-final encounter the predominantly youthful Bala side gave an excellent account of themselves and were ahead up to the fiftieth minute.
Caernarfon started brightly with numerous backs gaining ground with ball in hand, Dylan Parry, Gethin Evans and Dafydd Roberts were prominent but the telling final pass eluded all of them. Bala meanwhile relied on the mastery of Rhydian Jones at outside half and although Caernarfon had previous knowledge of his elusive nature they were easily outdone as he darted from his own twenty two to cover three quarters of the field before offloading to wing Sion Lynch who scored the opener on ten minutes.
Fifteen minutes later Rhydian again took the initiative drifting through after good work by the driving forwards to score and convert. A lovely pass by Dafydd Roberts to Gethin Evans on the wing nearly brought reward but an offside call later gave Aled Jones the Cofis opening points from the ensuing penalty.
With the half drawing to a close a lost ball from a quick tap penalty proved beneficial for Caernarfon as the attempted clearance kick was charged down and second row Mark Bentham was able to dive through to score to draw the Cofis to within four points.
Bala prospered during the early stages of the second half with Rhydian again adding a penalty to stretch the lead however the Cofis got their break to hit back and tie the score. Brothers Carwyn and Dafydd released Aron Gwyn who’s final up and over pass came off winger Gethin Evans’s boot to roll kindly over the line and allow him to score. Aled Jones’s conversion was hailed as successful by the Caernarfon faithful when in midair.
Indiscipline cost Bala dearly within the next twenty minutes. A scrum offence saw Aled Jones give Caernarfon a three point lead and this was extended further by Kelvin Morris as he added a further six points from two further transgressions.
However the final deed rested with Rhydian Jones as he scored and converted during the last play.
Caernarfon therefore go forward to meet Bethesda in the Plate Final scheduled for Eirias at the beginning of May.
