Three late tries won the game for Bala in the final game of Division One and confirmed the one, two, three positions in the top WRU North Wales league for the 2017-2018. Nant Conwy winning against Llandudno last Wednesday evening had already been confirmed champions with Pwllheli second in the league and Conway Landrover Cup Winners, which they won against Bala the previous week, and the Merioneth side third in the league, one point short of the Llyn side’s total.
Pwllheli travelled with a much changed side but were just as strong with their input of young players and honours were even at half time, both sides having scored a try each. It was glorious sunshine at Maes Gwiniad and the referee allowed two minutes drinks break in both halves. Flanker Owain Puw scored for the home team and full back John Pugh for the visitors.
Early in the second half, some excellent play in mid field enabled centre Deio Brunelli to touch down for Pwllheli but Bala fought back and within minutes Dochan Roberts had scored for Bala. At the beginning of the last quarter, the visitors went ahead again when Danial Glyn found space on the wing and outpaced the defenders to the corner for a touchdown and a 10-15 score before Owain Aled twice side stepped his way through the Pwllheli defenders to touchdown and with two conversions from Rhydian Jones a 24-15 lead.
With two minutes of the game remaining, centre Miallt Roberts forced his way through the visiting defenders to score the fifth Bala try which was also converted for a final score of 31-15.
An excellent game of rugby and with so many youth players gaining first team experience, the future looks good for both sides.
