Colwyn Bay 2nds progress in to next round of Clwyd Cup after three tries to two victory over Llandudno.
On a balmy late autumn afternoon last Saturday Colwyn Bay 2nds entertained local rivals Llandudno 2nds at Brookfield Drive in the first round of the Clwyd Cup and prevailed by three tries (two converted) and two penalties to two (one converted) in a game tightly fought with skill and commitment belying the fact that this was a second team contest.
The home side’s fly half Henry Morris scored a penalty after 34 minutes bringing a tense first half its opening score. This was quickly followed by a Llandudno try in the corner which Bay countered with a try from scrum half Paddy Gluck on the stroke of half time. Morris converted. 10-5 to the Bay at half-time
The second half saw the hard-working Gluck cross over for two more tries to register his hat-trick. Morris converted the first and cleverly elected for a penalty after 65 minutes to put the Ceebees more than two converted tries clear with 15 minutes to go.
Tudno fought back with two tries (one converted) but the Bay had pulled too far ahead for it to make a difference. Gluck’s third try sealed the win late on. Big performances all round in the Bay side including man of the match Glyn Griffith for his innumerable tackles, Jon Costello and Richard Chinery in the scrum powerhouse for their countless hard yards.
Back to league dates next week for the Bay with a long trip to Welshpool.
