A rugby star at Rydal Penrhos has become the second academy member to be included in the RGC senior squad for a prestigious competition this weekend.
Dan Owen, an upper sixth pupil at the school, will join classmate Adam Sabri at the Fosters 7s, which will begin at Cardiff Arms Park this weekend.
The tournament will see the Gogs clash with other Principality Premiership powerhouses ahead of the start of the season next month.
RGC will face Bridgend in Round One on Sunday August 28, with the pair also set to square off on the opening day of the new season, which the be their first ever top flight game.
Owen, who captained the RGC side to an unbeaten run at the inaugural Conwy International Festival, is the latest in a long line of success stories to emerge from the Rydal Penrhos Rugby Academy, which is run in partnership with the Gogs and the Welsh Rugby Union.
The pair will be looking to emulate the likes of Sam Jones, Joe Simpson, Danny Cross, Sean Lonsdale and Efan Jones, who all made telling contributions to RGC’s historic promotion last term.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Dan has been one of the standout young players in the region for some time now, and getting to experience senior rugby with RGC will be a huge boost for him.
“To have two players from our academy in the senior squad for such a prestigious event shows that what we are doing here really is working, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos wishes them both and RGC the very best of luck in Cardiff.”
