A big thank you to Ifor for this second article in which he gives his opinion on who will finish where in Division Two North.
A look at Rugby in North Wales after 3 months of the present season
2nd Division
Already, Division 2 appears to be splitting into several sub-groups.
This Division contains 11 sides including one 2nd Team, Teirw Nant with the remaining sides being their Clubs’ 1st Teams. As in Division 1, I foresee THREE sections developing in this Division as well.
The top band contains four teams in my opinion, namely, as per current positions in the table: Rhyl, Mold, Teirw Nant and Wrexham. It is so good to see Rhyl RFC being reinvigorated this season having begun strongly. Then Mold, after being relegated from Division 1 last season, are becoming stronger and stronger and pressurising the top of the table. Quite a good start to the season for the Teirw, better than expected perhaps with Wrexham having played less games thus far than the rest but with a 100% record.
Personally, I think that it will be a battle between Mold and Wrexham for the top spot at the end of the season with Rhyl pushing them all the way. In my opinion, Teirw will lose the occasional match unexpectedly due to sometimes being in a situation where they are short of players (work obligations etc.) and having to play a weaker side. What about the following for the top 4 places – Mold, Wrexham, Rhyl, Teirw Nant?
I see three Clubs in the middle band: Colwyn Bay, Shotton and Welshpool. From the three, I am rather surprised to see that Shotton Steel have lost some recent matches and I believe that their results will improve as the season progresses. The Bay’s strong and agile pack will gain them more good ball and, as a result will win them more matches than they lose. At this stage, it appears that Welshpool’s home form lets them down – an unusual factor it must be said! Therefore, I suggest the following positions for the three: Shotton Steel, Colwyn Bay, Welshpool.
Four Clubs remain in the lowest band: Abergele, Newtown, Bangor and Llanidloes. I do not believe there is much between the first two sides in this section – two young teams that play better at home compared to when they travel ‘away’. Bangor show plenty of spirit but have a tendency to err on occasions which often costs them a match. Llanidloes then have not had the best of starts to the season and are finding things difficult at the moment, especially so when defending. This is the order I predict for the bottom paces: Newtown, Abergele, Bangor, Llanidloes.
Dyma fy nhabl terfynol felly:
1. Mold
2. Wrexham
3. Rhyl
4. Teirw Nant
5. Shotton Steel
6. Colwyn Bay
7. Welshpool
8. Newtown
9. Abergele
10. Bangor
11. Llanidloes
I’m sure that I am totally wrong in my assumptions and that most, if not all, of the above sides will do their utmost to prove me wrong! I wonder how would you see the ‘end of season’ table and that five whole months before the season closes. Please let Gary know.

Adran 2
Yn barod, mae’r 2ail Adran yn un hynod ddiddorol!
Cynhwysir 11 tîm yn yr Adran hon sy’n cynnwys un Ail Dîm sef, Teirw Nant gyda’r gweddill yn dimau 1af eu Clybiau. Fel yn Adran 1, gwelaf DRI rhan yn datblygu’n yr Adran hon hefyd.
Cynnwys y rhan uchaf bedwar tîm yn fy marn i, sef, fel y mae eu sefyllfa’n y tabl ar hyn o bryd: Rhyl, Yr Wyddgrug, Teirw Nant a Wrecsam. Braf yw gweld Clwb y Rhyl wedi atgyfnerthu eleni ac yn dechrau da iawn i’w tymor. Yna, Yr Wyddgrug, ar ôl dod i lawr o Adran 1 y tymor diwethaf yn ail gryfhau ac yn pwyso ar ben y tabl. Y Teirw wedyn wedi cael dechrau pur dda, gwell na’r disgwyl hwyrach, i’r tymor gyda Wrecsam wedi chwarae llai o gemau na’r gweddill ond gyda record 100%.
Rhagwelaf Yr Wyddgrug a Wrecsam yn brwydro am y safle cyntaf yn y tabl diwedd tymor gyda Rhyl yn eu gwthio hyd at y diwedd un. Tybiaf y bydd y Teirw yn colli ambell i gȇm yn annisgwyl oherwydd sefyllfa weithiau o orfod rhoi tîm gwannach nag arfer allan (galwadau Gwaith a gyrfa ag ati). Beth am y canlynol am y pedwar safle uchaf – Yr Wyddgrug, Wrecsam, Rhyl, Teirw Nant?
Tri Chlwb welaf yn y band canol: Bae Colwyn, Shotton a’r Trallwng. O’r tri hyn, rwy’n synnu braidd fod Shotton Steel wedi colli rhai gemau’n ddiweddar ac ni fuaswn yn synnu gweld eu canlyniadau’n gwella fel mae’r tymor yn mynd yn ei flaen. Bydd pac cryf a chydnerth y Bae wedyn yn aml yn rhoi mwy o’r bȇl iddynt mewn gemau na’u gwrthwynebwyr gan rwyddhau’r ffordd iddynt ennill fwy o gemau na’u colli. Ar hyn o bryd, ofnaf fod perfformiadau cartref y Trallwng yn eu gadael i lawr – nodwedd anarferol ynte! Awgrymaf felly’r safleoedd canlynol i’r tri: Shotton Steel, Bae Colwyn, Y Trallwng.
Gedy hyn y rhan olaf gyda phedwar Clwb: Abergele, Drenewydd, Bangor a Llanidloes. Ni chredaf fod yna lawer rhwng y ddau dîm cyntaf o’r band yma – dau dîm ifanc sydd yn chwarae’n well gartref na phan maent yn teithio. Digonedd o ysbryd gan Fangor hyd y gwelir ond tueddiad i wneud ambell i gangymeriad annisgwyl sy’n costio’n ddrud iddynt mewn gemau. Llanidloes wedyn heb gael y dechrau gorau i’r tymor ac yn ei chael yn anodd eleni, yn enwedig wrth amddiffyn. Dyma’r drefn yr awgrymaf ar gyfer y safloedd isaf: Y Drenewydd, Abergele, Bangor, Llanidloes.
Dyma fy nhabl terfynol felly:
1. Yr Wyddgrug
2. Wrecsam
3. Rhyl
4. Teirw Nant
5. Shotton Steel
6. Bae Colwyn
7. Y Trallwng
8. Y Drenewydd
9. Abergele
10. Bangor
11. Llanidloes
Mae’n siwr fy mod yn hollol anghywir ag y bydd nifer o’r timau uchod yn gwneud eu gorau i’m profi yng anghywir! Tybed sut y buasech chwi’n gweld y tabl diwedd tymor a hynny bum mis cyn i’r tymor ddod i ben? Gadewch i Gary wybod os gwelwch yn dda.
