We are on the threshold of another exciting season and I have been going through my notes and considering who were the players who impressed me the most in the matches I saw on my travels last season.
I could name a formidable XV from our Division 1 club players but that will be for another day in the meantime I will share with you my deliberations for my Player Of the Season 2015/16.
There are a strong group of contenders including the likes of Bala's David Yates and Bethesda's Rhys Williams who both successfully moved up to represent RGC1404 during the season -this goes to prove that there are plenty of players in our Divisions who given the chance are good enough to progress given the opportunity-it also shows the importance of our clubs in nurturing the talent and the least RGC1404 can do is to acknowledge this by naming their players' home club in their programmes!!.
Here is my club by club summary of the players who impressed me during last season-
Abergele's half back pair of Ian Marshall and Owain Davies are a very effective and polished consistent performers.
Bala's skipper and No 10 Rhydian Jones is a very exciting runner and his goal kicking is showing marked improvement which makes him an outstanding player.
Bethesda's impressive prop forward Paul Thomas is the ultimate 'team player' and possesses abundant ball skills-he is Bethesda's Mr Consistent.
COBRA's young No 8 Jack Jukes proved a real handful with his strong running and defensive qualities-could hold his own in any company-enjoyed a very successful season.
Caernarfon's mobile back rower Rhys Evans never fails to impress, leads from the front and is an excellent role model for the younger players.
Dolgellau have some very useful forwards but their fly half Gerwyn Thomas always catches my eye with his kicking, distribution and a steadfast defence.
Llandudno's all action flanker Bobby Davies is always at the forefront of the action with his enthusiasm and direct running --I sometimes wonder where he gets it from ? is it a Davies thing?
Llangefni's star performer is the highly talented Aaron Evans who has the skills to progress at higher levels.
Mold seem to produce excellent hookers over the years (Robin Mcbryde) none more so than the Ryan Kirby displays last season -a class act.
Nant have the irrepressible and inspirational Carwyn Ellis who continues to thrive and is one of the most influential players in the league.
Pwllheli's success is very much based on teamwork but 'no nonsense' scrum half Nick Butterworth is a pivotal cog in their armoury.
Rhuthun 's counter attacking speedster Kyle Davies is always a threat and a joy to watch.
With this array of talent it was very difficult to come up with a winner but after careful consideration my choice is Llandudno's attacking full back and top points scorer Ryan Pike. He thrives on counter attacking and combines pace and skill with an excellent kicking game- a very talented player - he is my Division 1 Player of the 2015/16 season.
