We move on to the half way stage of this exciting season
We move on to the half way stage of this exciting season-Week 11-albeit half our clubs are one/two games adrift due to the weather conditions over the last couple of weeks.
My predictions went well last Saturday but I missed out on a 100% result due to the late switch of track for the Llangefni/Llandudno match--I would have backed Tudno at home --Honest !!-- for my full house.
There are some mouth watering clashes to look forward to in this week's fixtures as clubs jockey for positions for the final lap. There are bound to be many exciting twists and turns for us to enjoy before we reach the run up the home straight at the end of the campaign, in the meantime here goes my predictions for Saturday.
A great battle in prospect between 9th and 8th positions at Bethesda when they take on Rhuthin. Corresponding match last season was a 30-15 victory for the Quarrymen who are unbeaten at home. Rhuthin lost narrowly at home 13-14 against 2nd placed Cofis last time out. Home advantage could influence the outcome here.
We will see a very interesting tussle at the Morfa when second placed Caernarfon on the back of four successive victories take on 5th place Bala who are undefeated in their last six league outings. This should be a cracker and whilst the Cofis home performances have not been great -with 2 wins 2 losses-they may have enough to edge the visitors in a close match.
There will be a monumental basement battle at Meifod when bottom club COBRA welcome Llangefni who are in 10th position. A must win game for both sides - COBRA have been very close to getting that elusive first home victory in their last few matches whilst Cefni have yet to taste success on the road. A close affair which could see the Montgomeryshire outfit shading the result for their overdue home win.
Dolgellau following a heavy defeat by a late flurry of tries at Pwllheli last week host Abergele. The visitors after a bright start have lost their last three matches and the Swordsmen will be keen to get back on track. They will prove a stern test for the home side in what will be a close encounter--Dol by a head !!.
What could turn out to be the 'match of the day' see third placed Llandudno hosting current league champions Pwllheli who are in 4th place. This will be a clash between both of the league's highest point scorers and has the ingredients of a try fest/see saw battle between these enterprising sides. Pwllheli's one and only defeat last season was their 30-15 loss away to Tudno who on form are capable of repeating this feat to maintain their title challenge. Pwllheli will have to pull out all the stops to get a result--a great game in prospect.
League leaders Nant welcome 6th placed Mold. Whilst the leaders have won all their matches on the road their home record is 2 wins from 4 starts. The visitors on the other hand are seeking their first away victory but have a 100% record at Wrexham Road. Nant will have to be at their best against the well organised visitors but on balance should edge a close contest.
Top matches in Div 2 include second place Colwyn Bay's visit to fourth place Dinbych who had a good win at Llanidloes last Saturday. Llani have another tough task this week when they travel to league leaders Shotton Steel.
In Div 3 runaway leaders Newtown host Benllech whilst there will be all to play for at 4th place Rhyl who welcome 5th place Welshpool with both sides keen to keep their promotion hopes alive.
