After last week's Plate and Bowl rounds its back to Week 8 of full league action this Saturday with some cracking matches in all Divisions.
Mixed bag of results for our clubs in last Saturday's WRU Plate and Bowl games, congratulations to Nant and Pwllheli who came back victorious from tough encounters in South Wales and together with Rhuthun who beat fellow Div 1 side Llangefni at Cae Smyrna go through to the 3rd Round of the Plate.
In the Bowl there were wins for COBRA, Wrexham and both Newtown and Shotton had walk overs which means that we have four North Wales clubs in Round 4.
There are some tasty encounters in Div1 and my match of the day is the clash at Bodegroes where current champions Pwllheli P6 W6 currently in 3rd place host 2nd place Bala P7 W6 L1. Both teams are in good form, the Llyn boys had a great win last week at Dowlais in the Plate, Bala had a blank Saturday. It was a close 14-8 win for Pwllhei last season, it could be close again and Bala are more than capable of breaching the Bodegroes fortress. On balance however the home side's experience and pace may tip the balance.
Rhuthun P7 W4 L3 undefeated at home and fresh from their victory at Llangefni last week entertain bottom club Bethesda P6 L6 who lost out at Caernarfon in the Conwy Land Rover North Wales Cup last time out. Pesda are badly in need of a morale boosting win to kick off their season snatched a 13-8 victory at Cae Ddol last season. Form favours the home side this time round.
Dolgellau travel to Caernarfon where the Cofis had a welcome return to form last Saturday beating struggling Bethesda after four successive league setbacks. Dol lost out 22-0 in their last visit in 2015/6 season. They took in form Rhuthun close at Cae Ddol in their last outing, it could be close but I go for a home win.
Colwyn Bay in 10th position entertain 4th placed Mold at Brookfield Road. The home side won 28-10 in the corresponding match last season when if my memory serves me right a certain Josh Leech made an appearance for his home/club of origin. After three successive victories Mold slipped up 27-3 against Llandudno last time out and will be keen to return to winning ways. Bay suffered a heavy defeat at high riding Bala in their last match but had a good win against Bro when last on home soil. The visitors have won twice on the road this season and could on form make it three on Saturday.
League leaders Nant P7 W6 L1 face a tricky encounter when they travel to 5th place Llandudno P7 W4 L3. Nant won 28-15 last time. Both teams were away last week in Plate action, Tudno lost out against last year's finalists Ystalyfera whilst Nant overcame Maesteg Quins. The league leaders will have to be at their best to claim the points against a talented and well drilled Tudno side, if they are they will go home with the spoils.
Bro, P6 W2 L4, make the journey to Sir Fon to take on Llangefni P7 W4 L3 in need of a win following two successive defeats. Cefni had a set back last Saturday when Rhuthun avenged their previous Saturday's defeat at Cae Smyrna in the Plate comp. It will be a good forward battle but Cefni's pace in their threequarters could tilt it in their favour.
Predictions summary-- Pwll v Bala- Home win, Rhuthun v Bethesda -Home win, Caenarfon v Dolgellau -Home win. Colwyn Bay v Mold -Away win, Llandudno v Nant -Away win, Llangefni v Bro -Home win.
In Div 2 -Match of the Day- is the clash at Caeau Les Philips when league leaders CRDinbych take on 2nd place Shotton. Both teams are undefeated in the league this season so something will have to give. It promises to be a great game so make your way to Dinbych on Saturday. There is also a tasty local derby at Maesydre when Welshpool host rivals Newtown.
In Div 3 top match is unbeaten league leaders Teirw Nant visit to second place Holyhead.
