Great initiative for women's rugby in North and Mid Wales gets underway on Sunday.
Whilst the senior Welsh women's team are out in Ireland attempting to bring home the Women's World Cup, there is also an air of excitement in North and Mid Wales with the launch of the Women's Game On league.
Five of the six teams who are in this development league, COBRA, Welshpool, Holyhead, Shotton and Llangollen, will be in action at COBRA on Sunday, August 10th, kicking off at 1.30pm. The sixth team, Pwllheli, are unfortunately unable to attend on this occasion.
It's certainly a big weekend for the Shotton girls as they start with the club's presentation night on the Saturday. No doubt the club coach will be pacing up and down keeping an eye on how much celebrating the girls are doing at this event and reminding them of their afternoon of rugby on the field the following day!
WRU Women's Game Changer for North and Mid Wales, Dave Roberts stated: 'This should be a fantastic afternoon of women's rugby and I'd urge anybody who can make it to head to COBRA for the 1.30pm start and see the skills on display from the girls'.
Dave added: 'The formation of the Game On League shows just how quickly the women's game is progressing in our region. Apart from the six teams in this league, we now have RGC in the Regional Championship, Caernarfon in the Premiership, and Abergele after a fantastic season, gaining promotion to Division One.
'However, it is really important to remember that the aims of our new league are twofold. One is to get more games for the teams than they have previously had and in a competitive format. The second is to collectively help the growth of North Wales women’s rugby. Both are equally important.
'One thing is for sure, there will be a tremendous atmosphere in the COBRA clubhouse after the Festival as the five teams settle down to watch Wales take on Canada in the World Cup. Why not come along and join us?'
There are no events to show yet.
