RUTHIN 18 v BRO FFESTINIOG 24
Ruthin gained a losers bonus point in this hard fought match against 3rd in the table Bro Ffestiniog at Caeddol in front of a good home crowd.
First points went to the Blues with a penalty goal from Shay Owen, but the Blues were having to defend well against a penetrating Bro attack and after about 10 minutes the visitors pressure paid off with a try by Lee Aspden converted by flanker Barry Roberts. The home side withstood further Bro pressure before clearing their lines and after a number of lineouts and scrums in Bro’s 22 were awarded a penalty which Owen slotted over.
Almost immediately the visitors responded with a ‘soft’ try from a Ruthin lineout on their own 22 and the whistle blew for half time with the score 12-6 to Bro. 10 minutes into the second half a Bro prop was sent off but the Blues were unable to gain immediate advantage as a Ruthin player was yellow carded and whilst both sides were playing with 14 men Roberts went over for another Bro try which he converted putting them 19-6 ahead.
After a period of scrappy play Ruthin began to be more consistent and replacement Rhys Hughes, who had just played a 80 minutes in the 2nd team match against Llangollen stepped through the Bro defence and offloaded to Owen for the Blues 1st try. Bro immediately responded with an opportunistic try re-establishing a lead of 11 points.
The Blues did their best to reduce the arrears against Bro’s 14 men in some of their best play of the match. Owen had a try disallowed before finally going over for his second which he converted with the last score of the match which finished with Bro ahead at 24-18 and Owen having scored all of the Blues points.

LLANGEFNI 0 V NANT CONWY 25
(Hanner amser / Half time: 0 - 10 )
Sgorwyr / Scorers:
Nant: Ceisiau / Tries: Robin Glyn (1), Carwyn Ellis (2), Ifan Pyrs (1), Carwyn ap Myrddin (1),
In a match played on a wet afternoon with a viciously swirling wind, it became apparent quite early on that this would be a ‘tight’ match between the forwards. That’s how it turned out with the Nant pack dominating (indeed, four of the forwards scored tries!). After several phases of play near the Llangefni try line, it was no surprise when one of the forwards would touch down. That forward happened to be the loose head prop, Robin. All attempts at converting throughout the match were missed due to the intensity of the wind!
Nant’s second try arrived five minutes before the break when the Nant pack totally controlled the ball from a ‘scrum 5’ and Carwyn, having just returned from his trip to New Zealand touched down for a try. A half time score of 0 – 10 then.
Immediately from the re-start, Carwyn scored his second try in a rather comical fashion. He was tackled by his ankles just short of the line and fell on his back. In one movement, he lifted the ball over his face to touch down behind his head! A Llangefni player received a red card soon and the Nant forwards still dominated. Only 10 minutes play was left when Nant scored their fourth (and bonus point try) when no. 7, Ifan Pyrs, picked up the ball and squeezed over for a try. With four minutes remaining, the Nant forwards won another ‘turn over ball’ and, for once, passed the ball along the back line. Full back, Carwyn ap ran at pace at an angle and went over for a touchdown on the right hand side. This made a final score of 0 – 25.
NANT’s next match will be a HOME game against RUTHIN on Saturday 12th November 2011) in a Division 1 North League match. The proposed North Wales Cup match against Dolgellau scheduled for next Saturday, 5th November, will have to be re-arranged as Dolgellau must play a SWALEC Bowl match on that day.
Mewn gêm ar brynhawn gwlyb gyda’r gwynt yn chwyrlio o gwmpas y cae, daeth yn amlwg mai gêm dyn rhwng y blaenwyr fyddai hon. Roedd pac Nant yn gryfach drwy’r gêm a bu i bedwar ohonynt sgorio ceisiau.Ar ôl cyfres o ymosodiadau ger llinell y tîm cartref daeth y sgôr gyntaf wrth i’r prop, Robin. wthio trosodd am gais ar ôl 10 munud o chwarae. Oherwydd y gwynt dieflig, ni lwyddwyd gydag unrhyw ymgais at drosi drwy’r holl gêm! Cyrhaeddodd ail gais Nant bum munud cyn yr hanner o sgrym 5 wrth i Carwyn, ar ôl dychwelyd o’i ymweliad â Seland Newydd, dirio ar ôl i’r pac wthio tros y llinell. Sgôr o 0-10 ar yr hanner felly.
Yn syth o’r ail gychwyn, sgoriodd Carwyn ei ail gais wrth orwedd ar ei gefn a chodi’r bêl tros ei ben i ennill y 5 pwynt. Bu i chwaraewr o Langefni dderbyn cerdyn coch yn fuan wedyn ond parhaodd Nant i chwarae’n dyn. Gyda 10 munud yn weddill ar ôl sawl cymal o chwarae, gwelwyd, Ifan Pyrs, y rhif 7, yn codi’r bêl gan wthio trosodd am gais arall. Pedwar munud oedd yn weddill wrth i’r pac ennill y bêl unwaith yn rhagor a’i phasio’n gelfydd ar hyd y llinell ymosod am unwaith a Charwyn ap yn torri ar ongl trwy’r amddiffyn i dirio yn y gornel. Sgôr derfynol o 0-15 felly a phwynt bonws am sgorio 4 cais neu fwy!
Bydd NANT yn chwarae gartref yn erbyn RHUTHUN nesaf ar ddydd Sadwrn, 12fed Tachwedd 2011 a chan fod Dolgellau yn chwarae ym Mowlen SWALEC ar y 5ed Tachwedd bydd yn rhaid ail drefnu gêm Cwpan Gogledd Cymru a oedd wedi’i rhaglennu i’w chwarae'r Sadwrn nesaf.

BANGOR 0 v BENLLECH 10
Bangor fielded a young team with several youth players getting a blooding and doing well despite losing by 2 unconverted tries. Bangor played with the wind in the first half and spent most of it occupying the visitors territory but again could not find the way to the try line finishing pointless at the interval.
After the turn around it was Bangor that had to defend and they did well until their No.8 Mike Evans went off injured and then the scrums started to disintegrate and Benllech got a try from such a scrum when No.8 Chris Spencer picked the ball up at the side and dove over the try line. The second came from a scrum lost against the head and Dan Snowden crossed the try line.
Bangor did have scoring chances throughout and could have taken this game. Young players like Declan Jones on the wing, Ivo de Jesus in the centre and Joe Adamson in the pack all did well chasing and defending but the team just can't find the way to cross the try line.
Next week the two teams meet again at Benllech in the quarter final of the Inter Cup.
