If you have pre-season friendly matches arranged, could you please read the following release from the WRU Referees Department.
Dear Secretary
Pre-Season Friendly Matches – August 2016
During August there is a considerable reduction in referee availability, primarily due to the holiday season. With numerous friendly matches being played during this time would you please adhere to the following:-
During this period only, you are permitted to directly contact a referee from the WRU list to officiate at your match, with the proviso that approval is sought from the Referees Department. However, matches involving either the Regions or Principality Premiership sides, whether home or away, will be appointed by the WRU.
From a WRU Insurance point of view no game can be played unless officiated by a referee on the WRU List of Referees who has been accredited with a WRU Level 3 Referee Licence. This should be produced on request.
Please note in line with previous seasons, match officials travelling expenses for friendly matches are to be paid direct to the match official on the day of the game by the home club and are not refundable.
All club secretaries will have received an up to date referee availability list, which clearly indicates individual referee’s availability during the month of August. For your benefit it would be far easier if you contacted referees close to your home ground or even referees connected to your club.
The Referees Department must be informed of all matches that are taking place.
Notification of matches must be received a minimum of 4 (four) working days prior to the match taking place.
