Following report kindly supplied by Bro Ffestiniog.
A solitary losing bonus point is all that Bro took from this Division 1 North encounter whilst both sides have been struggling for any kind of form this season so a win was a must.
This first try came on four minutes when Cofi's fly half Aled Jones gathered a poor clearance kick. His run created space for centre Carwyn Roberts to exploit some missed tackles before offloading to scrum half Rhodri Jones to cross over for an unconverted try.
A missed penalty from Aled Jones should have put his side further into the lead but pulled the kick wide of the posts from 40m. The hosts went close once more through a driving maul but Bro won the turnover and cleared.
Bro started to get back into the match, and playing with the slope at Y Morfa should have gained more territory advantage. As ever the back row pairing of Dewi James and Huw Parry gained Bro some momentum with Parry going close but Caernarfon won turnover ball and cleared.
Ffestiniog's left wing Ioan Evans strong run took him deep into the hosts 22 but a high tackle from centre Robert saw him sin binned.
Bro should have done more with the extra man but the Cofi's defence held firm.
Hooker Tom James combined well with his prop Dylan Jones to power over for Bro's first try but the referee adjudged that the ball was held up much to the frustration of the visitors.
It was still all to play for as the sides went into the break with the score at 5 - 0.
Playing downhill from the re-start Caernarfon soon doubled their lead. A break at pace from wing Adam Thomas took him deep into Bros half and with excellent support again at pace from team mates Sion Owen and Gareth Pritchard who offloaded from tackles back to Thomas to score another unconverted try.
After a bout of penalties from both sides and some handbags between Bro's Ioan Evans and Cofi's Owain Williams the referee gave both ten minutes each to cool down.
Bro were awarded the penalty and chose to kick for touch. From the lineout Ffestiniog went through seven phases before creating a gap for centre Jordan Meredith to cross over. Fly half Mathew Hayden failed to add the extras.
This spurred the visitors and gained them some confidence and went close once more from a lineout and another from a turnover but the Cofi's defence frustrated Bro and the chances were lost.
With Bro working their way upfield through numerous rucks and mauls a turnover on their own 10m line by Caernarfon put Aled Jones through the tightest of gaps to run 40m unopposed to score - but once more a fine try went unconverted.
With 10 -15 minutes left it seemed the match was secure as the hosts defended well. But credit to Bro they continued to work their way back up field towards the try line. A lot of energy was put in by Bro as they rucked and mauled and were rewarded with a try for prop Alan Jones with Hayden adding the conversion.
This set up a frantic last few minutes Ffestiniog again continued to pressurise but with the last play of the match a wrong decision was taken by Bro and Caernarfon aere able to kick for touch and the referee blew his whistle for full time much to the relief of the home supporters.
It wasn't a classic, it was an even encounter with the difference being that whilst Bro laboured their way in attack the Cofi's took them at pace. Bro will rue the missed chances whilst Caernarfon will be glad of a much needed 4 points.
Bro entertain Pwllheli this week while Caernarfon travel to Nant Conwy. Kick off 2:30pm
