Wins against Dowlais and Builth Wells, team building gorge walk in Brecon Beacons and Llanelli v Munster, what a weekend!
Colwyn Bay Under 11s Easter tour to South Wales.
DOWLAIS RFC 19 vCOLWYN BAY RFC 47
The home team began brightly as the Bay weighed up the task in hand. An early try in the corner by Dowlais stung the team into action. The Bay quickly realised that in the heat, the pace of the backs was the key to unlocking the opposition. Some trade mark carries by Tom Cuddihy and Sion Edwards created the room for Sam Earl- Jones to score. Dowlais came back strongly with some fierce drives through their forwards to score either side of half-time. This inspired the team and there followed a flurry of tries from the backs, Sam Holt and William Opie clearing out well at ruck time.
Try scorers: Carwyn Knights,Connor Williams, Connor Hogan, Sam Earl-Jones [4]. Man of the match Sam Earl-Jones.
BUILTH WELLS RFC 19 v COLWYN BAY RFC 21.
This was a great game of rugby by both teams. The Bay quickly realised the size of the task and spent the entire first half camped in their half. Despite resolute defending by Carwyn Knights and Seb Marshall, Builth moved the ball well and the Bay went into half-time 19-0 down. In the second half the Bay again started on the back foot before Joe Fisher and Ruby Roberts in the pack led a quite inspired come-back. Repeated re-cycling from the break down led to the Bays’ first score. This lifted the teams’ confidence and they rolled up their sleeves and drove back up the pitch. All the squad contributed to the second score with Joe Kilpatrick’s hooking at scrum-time proving crucial .This set up a thrilling finish. Once again a great kick chase led to a breakdown near the Builth line before some excellent handling by the backs, including Connor Williams at outside centre ,led to a try in the corner for the Bay. An outstanding performance against quality opposition, the conversion giving the Bay a hard fought victory.
Try scorers: Sion Edwards, Sam Earl- Jones[2]. Man of the match Joe Fisher.
The squad also enjoyed a team building gorge walk in Brecon, and a visit to watch Llanelli against Munster.
