London Welsh made it two wins from two with a comprehensive 34-7 win over Northampton Saints to take a giant step towards the finals of the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7s Series at the Rec on August 3rd.
The Exiles made the quicker start, former Wales Under-20 winger Iolo Evans outstripping the Saints defence to go over for the first try of the match.
And Aaron Myers - a key member of Newcastle'stitle- winning side a year ago - showed his ball-handling skills to go over in the corner for the second.
Welsh almost added a third when Ed Tellwright chipped over the top and looked to be in the clear but the bounce of the ball was against him - however Northampton's respite was temporary as the winger made no mistake when given some space on the left - Chris Banfield's conversion making it 17-0 at the break.
Welsh started the second half in the way they finished the first, full-back Tom Rees breaking through and then turning Ryan Glynn inside out to go over for the fourth try of the game.
It was turning into a procession with Banfield the next man to go over, spotting a hole in the tired Saints defence - although the full-back dragged his conversion horribly wide as Welsh led 27-0.
Northampton brought on flying winger Anders Mogensen, who made an immediate impact with a great break, eventually finished off by Alex Woolford.
But Welsh were not to be denied and added their sixth try through Ben Seru - following his double in the opener - Rhodri McAtee adding the extras.
