Here we take a look at the runners and riders as they start to head for the home straight.
Following on from Monday night’s announcement that no club currently playing in Division Two North will be relegated at the end of this season (Harlech dropped out at the start of the season and will be deemed as the relegated club), I thought it was time to take a look at the run-ins for runaway leaders Dinbych and the chasing pack.
At the risk of upsetting those in positions two to four, I’m going to suggest that Dinbych will be Division Two champions and will be promoted to Division One. But, which one of their other three will fill that second spot and join them?
Team | P | W | D | L | BP | Pts |
Dinbych | 14 | 14 | 0 | 0 | 13 | 69 |
Shotton | 11 | 9 | 0 | 2 | 8 | 44 |
Wrexham | 12 | 8 | 0 | 4 | 11 | 43 |
COBRA | 10 | 8 | 0 | 2 | 5 | 37 |
Dinbych have just six games to go and their next fixture, away at Shotton, looks like it will be the hardest test of their season to date. With a couple of good wins in their next two games after Shotton, home against Abergele and Llanidloes, the Division Two trophy could be heading their way before we enter April.
A v Shotton – 3rd March
H v Abergele – 10th March
H v Llanidloes – 24th March
A v COBRA – 7th April
To arrange:
H v COBRA
A v Wrexham
Shotton, having played eleven and lost just two will be hoping to add to their points tally in their next game, away against lowly Abergele and then they have that big test v Dinbych. In their final nine game run-in, Shotton have just three away games and this could be decisive in the final shake up.
A v Abergele – 17th February
H v Dinbych – 3rd March
A v COBRA – 10th March
H v Welshpool – 24th March
A v Llangollen – 7th April
To arrange:
H v Abergele
H v Llangollen
H v COBRA
H v Rhyl
Wrexham, just a point adrift of Shotton, but having played one more game, will also look to rack up the points in their next game, away against Llangollen and will have to keep their foot on the pedal in March when they play Rhyl, Llanidloes and Bangor if they are looking to pounce on any Shotton setbacks.
A v Llangollen – 17th February
H v Rhyl – 3rd March
A v Llanidloes – 10th March
A v Bangor – 24th March
H v Newtown – 7th April
To arrange:
H v Llangollen
A v Newtown
H v Dinbych
COBRA, having played just half of their twenty scheduled league fixtures, are still in the hunt having only lost two games so far, but they have some stern tests to come, with Shotton and Dinbych (both home and away) and they may well rue their lack of bonus points so far in the final shake up. Six away games to play out of the remaining ten games makes this a very tough ask for the men from Meifod.
H v Newtown – 17th February
H v Shotton – 10th March
A v Llanidloes – 17th March
A v Abergele – 24th March
H v Dinbych – 7th April
H v Abergele – 14th April
To arrange:
A v Newtown
A v Shotton
A v Dinbych
A v Rhyl
So there we have it, who is your money on to join Dinbych?
