Wrexham RFC will shortly be sending out information regarding our Annual Anglo- Welsh Mini Rugby Tournament(U8 through to U12 inclusive) which is to be held on Sunday, 29th April, this year.
Since there have been so many changes with secretaries and helpers over the past 12 months I would welcome it if clubs would lodge an expression of interest with me asap so that I can ensure that the right person receives the information.
Kind regards

Colwyn Bay U15 19 v Caernarfon U15 10
Sunday's visitors to Brookfield Road were Caernarfon RFC who at last year’s Under 14s First Hydro Co Sponsored Tournament put in a very commendable performance winning the First Hydro Co Plate Competition which is sitting proudly in the trophy cabinet in Caernarfon. The Bay have already played away at Caernarfon on the opening day of the season in September and won 45:7 in probably what was one the best team performances.
However a past victory means nothing and today as seen by the score the Caernarfon boys were out to prove that the result in September was a “one off” and halt the run of rich form that the Bay are currently on. The referee was Cameron McMullen the ex Abergele Centre and the game was also a mile stone as new boy George Hopkins who has just picked up the game, made his debut for the club up front.
The Bay started well and within three minutes they were 7 nil up. From a scrum on the Caernarfon 10 metre line the Bay backs broke blind and Harri Chinery Parkes Captain put a delicate kick through which was quickly followed up by be Iwan Coghlan playing at Centre who beat the covering defenders to the touch down in the corner. Iwan then converted his own try from 25 metres out to get the Bay off to a flying start. The early part of the first half belonged to the Bay with great running from the Bay Wingers with Scott Kane, Sean Harrison and Luke Rawicki seeing plenty of the ball and making large territorial gains.
However Caernarfon did not come to make up the numbers and hit back with a great try from their stand out player and Number 8 Ifan who broke from a strong Caernarfon rolling maul and barged over for an unconverted try. This try really galvanised the Caernarfon players and they took the game by the scruff of the neck and only great defence by the Bay backs notably Jake Wilson Inside Centre and Connah Harding Fly Half with crunching tackles stopped Caernarfon from going further ahead.
Caernarfon on the stroke of half time did go deservedly ahead when from a scrum on the 10 metre line their Scrum Half Hywel Jones broke from the base and with a superb dummy, a “show and go”, and side stepping the Bay defence ran in a great solo try to make the score 7 :10 at half time with Caernarfon being worthy of their lead. The Bay half time team talk from the coaches was to say the least going to interesting as the Bay had gone to sleep, were now trailing on the score board, and being matched man for man by the Caernarfon players. The 45 :7 result from September was a distant memory.
In the second half the Bay began to play a more tactical game and with the wind at their backs the Bay kickers Iwan Coghlan, Jake Wilson and Connah Harding used the elements very well and put in a range of long defensive kicks which were very well followed up quickly by the backs and wingers to keep the play in the Caernarfon half.
The Bay added to their score from a set piece when Remy Sheil Scrum Half matching his opposite number also made a show and go break through the Caernarfon back line to score under the posts in spite of some brave Caernarfon cover tackling. The try was converted by Iwan Coghlan to make the score 14:10.Caernarfon again came back at the Bay with good aggressive forward dominated rugby and after a prolonged spell of pressure by the men in purple in the Bay 22m area the Bay finally relieved the pressure by using the boot and the tail wind to get back in the Caernarfon 22m zone.
From a Caernarfon line out on the 5 metre line, the ball was palmed back over the Caernarfon line and with the clearance kick being charged down the ball was behind the posts. Quick thinking Bay Fly Half Connah Harding fell onto the ball to claim the try which went unconverted to make the score 19:10.For the last five minutes the Bay pummelled the Caernarfon line with strong forward breaks from Adam Stroud, Jacob Weigh, Jordan Edwards, and Connor Harvey which most teams would have wilted under. However credit must be given to Caernarfon for sterling defence that kept this game tight right to the final whistle.
This game was won by the Bay using the elements better and also using the kicking aspects of the game in the right areas of the park. This game sets up the First Hydro Co Tournament nicely on Sunday 25th March 2012 at Colwyn Bay which shows again there is very little between the local teams at this age group which will make for another great day of junior rugby in North Wales rugby.
For the Bay viewpoint their Man of the Match was Iwan Coghlan Fullback and other standout players today were Jake Wilson for tackling, Scott Kane for attacking running play and Remy Sheil and Harri Chinery Parkes for taking the right options. For Caernarfon their Man of the Day was Scrum Half Hywel Jones.

Colwyn Bay U10s 6 v Rydal Prep U10s 4
Ollie Gibson (2 tries)
Josh Jakeman (2 tries)
Matthew Millband (2 tries)
Colwyn Bay U10s recorded their first victory of the season, a reward for all their hard work in training. It came after a fiercely contested match against Rydal Prep in the first leg of the Cooper Cup, an annual event between Colwyn Bay Rugby Club and the school. The first half saw Colwyn Bay put Rydal under pressure and as a result were 2-0 up at half time. Rydal scored straight away at the start of the second half, only for Colwyn Bay to hit back quickly again with another try. A fight back from Rydal saw them come within one try of Colwyn Bay but the Bay players held their nerve to score again just before the final whistle. Players and supporters are already looking forward to the return fixture at Rydal later this season.
