Cup/Plate/Bowl comps dominated last weekend and this Saturday make way for an exciting full programme of league encounters.
Hearty congratulations to Nant and Pwllheli who have stormed through to the last eight of the WRU Plate following great victories over Rhydyfelin and Llanishen. We saw Mold narrowly lose out and gallant displays by Dinbych and Wrexham in the Bowl on their trips to South Wales facing tough opposition. Bethesda and Bala eased to the Conwy Land Rover North Wales Cup semi finals joining Abergele and the winners of Caernarfon and Pwllheli.
First up this week is Bethesda's visit to Pentre Mawr to take on bottom club Abergele. The visitors following a string of defeats come to this match on the back of an excellent display away at Bro to book their place in the NWCup semis. Gele are also in the Cup but are still looking for their first league success of the season. Pesda won the corresponding match earlier in the season 46-16 , it should be a closer game this time but they may still may have the edge.
Fourth place Bala host Colwyn Bay after defeating them 81-0 last week in the cup. The high scoring Maes Gwyniad outfit also inflicted a heavy defeat on Bay in the reverse fixture earlier in the season making this a tough ask for the visitors. On form only one winner here.
COBRA visit 5th place Bro who won 27-13 earlier in the season at Meifod. Both teams are looking to get back to winning ways following heavy defeats in their last league outings. This could be close but the home side should have enough to deny the Montgomeryshire men their first away success of the season.
Mold unlucky to lose out in the Plate last week host third placed Caernarfon. This promises to be an exciting game -Mold were pipped 18-16 last time they met and are enjoying a great run of league wins. The Cofis will provide a stern challenge and the home side will have to be at their best to succeed. Tight but the Wrexham Road boys should make home advantage count.
Last year's champions Pwllheli welcome league leaders and great rivals Nant to Bodegroes in my 'match of the day'. Both teams will be buoyed by their great victories last week in the WRU Plate so we are in for a treat. Pwllheli remain unbeaten in all comps this season and have beaten the visitors twice this term. In many ways they are evenly matched and this could go either way on the day. It will take a monumental effort to breach the Bodegroes fortress and Nant will not be found wanting in this connection but I will go for a home win.
Rhuthun who are still in the relegation zone but have shown improved form of late welcome 7th place Llandudno who narrowly lost out to Mold last time out. Tudno won 38-12 earlier in the season - it will be closer this time but they could return home with the spoils.
