Back to full league action this week following Autumn break
Winter has arrived, we lost some good rugby weather during the Autumn tests, but that is another issue!!. We were sustained by some great Conwy Land Rover Cup action-mostly evening mid week in front of some good crowds- yet another interesting issue!.
Its a welcome return to league fixtures this week in all divisions with great action to look forward to. In Div 1 three of our top four teams -Nant , Pwllheli and Rhuthun are on missionary trips to South Wales in the National Plate. In Div 2 Shotton and Newtown are our flag bearers in the Bowl--good luck to all of them.
My thanks to Eifion Harding for a brilliant piece in last month's guest pundit spot. Whilst there were a few non-runners he got 100% -Da iawn a diolch Eifion. By the way if anyone fancies their chances in Div 1 or any other division please get in touch with me or Gary. I currently restrict my predictions to Div 1 as these matches I mostly see and have my network of tipsters and 'stable lads' hot information !!.
Here are my Div 1 predictions for Saturday-
Bala welcome Llangefni to Maes Gwyniad. The hosts are in third position (P9 W7 L2) are unbeaten at home in the league this season could leapfrog Pwllheli to second place if they bag the points. Cefni in 6th position (P8 W5 L3) have been without a game since their epic 25-24 home victory against Bro on 4th November will not make it easy but on balance a home win is on the cards.
There will be a real basement battle at at Cae Ddafydd when bottom club Bethesda (P8 W1 L7) play fellow strugglers Colwyn Bay (P10 W1 L9). Pesda last saw action on 11th November when they gained their first W 14-10 against the Cofis. Bay last action was a recent heavy defeat at leaders Nant but prior to that a narrow home 17--22 defeat against Dolgellau. Its a crucial game for both teams and could be a cracker, home advantage favours the Quarrymen.
Llandudno (P8 W4 L4) travel to Y Morfa to take on the Cofis (P10 W3 L7) who will be keen to get back to winning ways after two successive defeats and only one win at home so far this season. Tudno last outing was on 4th November when they lost 38-17 against leaders Nant. Difficult to call this mid table clash but the visitors may prove too strong.
Mold (P9 W5 L4) welcome Bro (P8 W3 L5) to Wrexham Road. The visitors will be buoyed by a good 21-0 win against Rhuthun and last week's Conwy Land Rover NWCup victory over Dolgellau in their last two outings. Mold out of action since their narrow 21-17 home defeat agains champions Pwllheli on 11th November have a better away record having only one success at home so far this season. Close game and a 'battle royale' up front -Mold could edge it.
Pick of the DIV 2 games will be COBRA 's visit to Caeau Les Philips to take on runaway leaders Dinbych. The hosts are 15 points clear at the top but the visitors have only lost once this season -to Wrexham who incidentally inflicted Dinbych's only defeat this season albeit in the Intermediate Cup. There will be a bottom two battle at Abergele when Welshpool are the visitors.
In DIV 3 all the top three sides are at home- Holyhead v Mach, Pwll 2nds v Rhos and Teirw Nant take on Benllech.
