Colwyn Bay U16 31 v Llangefni U16 21
Following report kindly supplied by Colwyn Bay RFC
The Bay welcomed Llangefni Rugby Club to Brookfield Road which is a fixture where the honours have ebbed and flowed over the years and Llangefni have always given a good account of themselves at the First Hydro Co Junior Sponsored Spring Rugby Tournament so this was always going to be a keen and closely fought contest.
The Bay unfortunately through injuries, educational commitments, and family absences only had 13 players. Llangefni sportingly agreed to comply with the WRU guidance and went for uncontested scrums due to the lack of props in the CBRFC team at this age.
The Bay started well and had most of the possession in the early exchanges and a well work move from the 22m line which put in Olly Wood Fullback in the corner for an unconverted try after some resolute Llangefni defence.
Llangefni were galvanised by this crossing and came back at the Bay and scored an excellent try from Aled Roberts, which was converted to edge the visitors ahead. The game again ebbed and flowed with excellent rucking and mauling by both sides and though Bay were smaller up front they contested well above their capacity against some good Llangefni players who play regular regional rugby.
The Bay went over for a further try where the Bay scrum half Remy Sheil pounced on a defensive opportunity went over for a try to make the score 12:7 at the break.
The second half reflected the first half with both sets of forwards giving everything that was asked and set up good ball for the backs who made the ball cover the territory well with some very long range field kicking and conversions.
The Bay went further ahead when Connah Harding Fly Half made a break and was well supported to get over the line which was converted. The Bay maintained the momentum with Captain Harri Parkes adding to the score converting his own short range try. Llangefni had not come to Colwyn Bay to make up the numbers and good try was scored by Rhys Jones going in for a converted try which put the boys from Ynys Mon back in the game.
The Bay had to defend a great onslaught by Llangefni but resolute tackling by everybody for the second week kept out the visitors. The Bay added to the score with a late and well worked individual break away try from Scrum Half Remy Sheil. However full credit to Llangefni who were well lead by their Captain Alex with a never say die attitude, and Llangefni had the last word with a great try by big Rhodri Second Row, who went under the posts from 30 metres to make the final score 31:21 to the Bay.
The Bay man of the match was Remy Sheil Scrum Half with notable performances by new boy George Hopkins and another sterling performance was put in by Captain Harri Chinery Parkes.
Notable stand out players from Llangefni was Max and their nippy scrum half who released the Llangefni backs in a timely manner.
Next game home against Bangor on Sunday followed by the annual game against Rydal on the following Saturday.

Mold U15s 19 v Dinbych U15s 40
Following report kindly supplied by Dinbych RFC
Sunday 23 September 2012
Dinbych’s Under 15s continued their excellent start to the season with an away win at Mold, one of the few teams to have beaten them last season. Mold scored first in an entertaining and hard fought game. Dinbych then scored four tries in the first half without reply to take a commanding lead. The second half was a more even affair with each side touching down twice, but Dinbych remained in control.
For the second game in succession, full back Gruff Roberts was Dinbych’s top scorer with two tries and two conversions. Fly half Josh Morris’s tally was not far behind with a try and three conversions. Props Harri Evans and James Fisher Jones also crossed for tries as did scrum half Iwan Johnson. Mold’s Caine Le Tissier crossed for a brace of tries with Ethan Roberts also touching down for the home side and Tyler Bridges adding two conversions.
Dinbych started strongly and controlled possession in the opening minutes. When Mold did get possession they spread the ball wide to the right wing and Caine Le Tissier ran through some weak Dinbych defending to score in the corner. A well taken conversion from Bridges gave the home side an early 7-0 lead.
Dinbych fought back immediately. From a strong scrummage, Dinbych drove forward with flanker Jac Sherrington carrying the ball well towards the home 22 metre line. James Fisher Jones took the ball on towards the 5 metre before being felled. Harri Evans collected the ball and crashed over for the visitor’s opening try. Gruff Roberts’ conversion brought the scores level.
Roberts than gave Dinbych the lead as he collected the ball on the 22 metre line and sprinted down the right wing before cutting in to score under the posts and giving himself the simplest of conversion kicks.
A short time later, Dinbych extended their lead from another solid scrum. Captain and scrum half Iwan Johnson picked up from the base of the scrum and saw a gap in the Mold defence. He made good ground before being tackled. The Dinbych pack cleared up swiftly and fittingly Johnson was on hand to reap the rewards of his initial break and touch down to the left of the posts. Josh Morris stepped up for kicking duties and his conversion brought the score to 7-21.
The last act of the half saw the Dinbych pack again powering the ball forward and James Fisher Jones drove over in the far left corner for the visitor’s fourth try. The conversion fell short but Dinbych went into the interval with a seemingly comfortable 7-26 lead.
After the interval, Dinbych extended their lead. A line out on the Mold 22 metre saw Josh Morris released into space to run in for a simple try. The fly half added the bonus to his own score with another successful conversion.
Mold immediately demonstrated that they did not intend surrendering. After a period of prolonged pressure in the Dinbych 22 metre line, the home side got their just desserts when hooker Ethan Roberts crossed in the left corner. Another excellent kick from Tyler Bridges saw the scores narrowed to 14-33.
Dinbych then restored their margin after a loose kick from the Mold 22 metre zone fell into the hands of a waiting Gruff Roberts. The full back needed no more invitation to run straight through the home defensive line for his second try of the day. Morris’ conversion brought the score to 14-40.
Mold, to their credit, fought to the last and were rewarded with a late unconverted try for Caine Le Tissier to give a finals core line of 19-40.
This was an impressive team performance by Dinbych and an excellent preparation for this Sunday’s big game when Llandudno visit Caeau Les Phillips. Tudno were the only team to beat Dinbych twice last season and many would say there are the best team in their age group in North Wales at present. The game will give Dinbych a great marker on how far they have progressed since last season and with the team in high spirits, a great encounter lies ahead.

The Under 16s could not match the younger teams success as they went down 17-8 to Mold in a tightly fought contest.
Back in Denbigh, the Under 12s hosted their Mold counterparts and despite a brave performance went down 10-31. Dinbych tries came from Thomas Jones and Adam Berry.
