TO COMPILE A WEEKLY JUNIOR REPORT
It would be a tremendous help if I could find a volunteer to put together a weekly 'Junior Report' for this web-site. If you're already involved with the Mini/Junior section of your club you will already have your 'finger on the pulse' far more than I will as regards Junior information for the region.
If you fancy giving it a go, please just email gwcymru1@aol.com or telephone 07713 514 375 and we can discuss it further.

Rhyl U15s 12 points v Dinbych U15s 50 points
Sunday 14 October 2012
Dinbych’s Under 15s continued their 100% excellent start to the season with another successive away win at neighbours Rhyl. Although Dinbych ran in eight tries, Rhyl were tougher opponents than the scoreline suggested and staged a second half fightback.
Yet again Dinbych’s top scorer was full back Gruff Roberts with two tries and 4 conversions. Wing Jake Vaughan Thomas also scored 2 tries and fly half Josh Morris made the score sheet twice with a try and a conversion. Dinbych’s other try scorers were prop Harri Evans and centres Rhys Lloyd and Brad Reid. Rhyl’s scorers were Luke Hughes and Jed Dilworth with Tom Jones adding a conversion.
It was a also a successful trip to Rhyl for Dinbych’s Under 14s as they won their game 0-41 running in 7 tries without reply.
For the Under 15s, Josh Dalloloio impressed with some strong tackling on his debut as flanker with second row Dafydd Montgomery also impressing with his defensive effort in only his second game.
Dinbych having conceded first in their last two games were determined not to make the same error and ran in 4 tries in the opening 20 minutes. The first score came from a trademark Dinbych move with the forwards making the hard yards into Rhyl territory before the ball was released out to the backs. Fly half Morris saw the weakness in the Rhyl defence and switched the direction of play to allow Vaughan Thomas to run in from the 22 metre line for an unconverted try to the right of the posts.
Dinbych’s second involved another demonstration of the exceptional pace of Gruff Roberts. Dinbych won a scrum 15 metres in their own half and the ball was fed to Roberts who broke away down the right wing and showed a clean pair of heels to the Rhyl defence as he crossed under the posts. The reward for his efforts was the simplest of conversion attempts as he took the score to 0-12.
Dinbych’s next score was credited to the forwards. Prop Harri Evans collected the ball on the Rhyl 10 metre line and rampaged through the home defence to cross to the left of the posts. Josh Morris’ conversion took the scores to 0-19.
In the second quarter Rhyl enjoyed the territorial advantage and came close to scoring on several occasions. Dinbych’s defence held firm and Rhyl were vulnerable on the counter attack. Dinbych pressed home their advantage as Jake Vaughan Thomas crossed for his second on the right wing. In the lead up to the try, the Dinbych centres Aled Douglas and Brad Reid both gave a textbook display of drawing defensive players before putting in perfectly weighted passes.
Dinbych’s fifth try was an almost identical copy of their second as Gruff Roberts took the ball from a scrum in his own half. He showed strength as well as pace to break away from two tackles to again cross under the posts. His successful conversion took Dinbych into the interval at 0-31 ahead.
The second half opened with an early score for Dinbych as Gruff Roberts again spotted a gap in the home defence before feeding replacement centre Rhys Lloyd to power away from outside the 22 metre line into the right corner. With the score now 0-36, the premature end of the game beckoned but Rhyl rallied and earned the score their efforts deserved. After a series of 5 metre scrums, prop Luke Hughes bulldozed over for the home side’s first try. Tom Jones added a neatly taken conversion to give the scoreline more respectability at 7-36.
Dinbych responded in some style. A line out on Dinbych's own 22 metre line was thrown long to James Fisher Jones who fed the ball out. Centre Brad Reid took the ball well inside his own half and outran the Rhyl defence to score his side’s seventh try of the morning. Gruff Roberts added another conversion. Rhyl continued to battle and gave the home crowd something to cheer as Jed Dilworth scored a second unconverted try.
However the last act of the game saw Dinbych scoring again from their own half. This time it was fly half Josh Morris who broke away to score. Gruff Roberts’ conversion bought his tally for the morning to 18 points and gave a final score of 12-50.
Dinbych’s U14, U15 and U16 teams face another tough challenge on Sunday as they make the long journey to Pwllheli, where they can be sure of a warm Llyn welcome.

Wrexham Under-13 win again 36-7
By Julie Carter | Sunday 14th October 2012
Wrexham were looking to build on their strong victory over Ruthin last week by facing Stockport Under 13's. This was Wrexham's first away match of the season and the team were looking to domintate from the word 'go' against their opposition.
The game started with a runaway try from a kick caught by Jacob Hitchcox; Jacob was too fast and went over in the corner. From that moment the boys came into their own and showed class, teamwork and sheer determintation to win.
The game was split into quarters. In the second quarter Wrexham ran their way into Stockport's 22 and through patience and perseverance, the score was doubled by Christian "Bambi" Wilkinson running over the try line. Will Smith got the conversion to make it 12-0.
In the third quarter, Jacob scored a superb hat-trick of tries to take his total to 4. The first was converted by Joe Davies. Jacob's third try was, for some, the highlight of the game. With a clever chip over the Stockport backs and the right bounce, he caught the ball to run over the line in spectacular style, Will Smith once again getting the conversion.
Stockport tried to fight back with an emphatic try by their outside half; this was converted by their kicker to bring the score to 31-7. In the fourth quarter Wrexham's final try was scored by Sam Rogers, who slipped into the corner after a supportive run courtesy of his team mate Callum. The final score was 36-7.

Llanidloes U8 4 v Welshpool U8 4
Llani U8 - can't get out of the blocks
By Mark James | Sunday 14th October 2012
Squad:-
U8's - Finnley Jones, George Hughes, Josh Skilton, Teegan James-Bentley
U7's - Ceri Roberts, Harvey Jones, Llewellyn Jerman
Played catch up from the off. Third little festival we've been to this season and we never seem to hit the ground running.
Relied on the big guns to get us out of jail in this match. Josh reacted first to a loose pass and sped away for a well taken try and Finnley and George ensured the unbeaten run was salvaged.
Must single out George Hughes for his defensive tagging work was top drawer throughout the three games

Knighton U8 5 v Llanidloes U8 6
By Mark James | Sunday 14th October 2012
Trefyclawdd were always dangerous with ball in hand and really examined Llani's defensive work.
Great to see Ceri, Teegan contribute with long range tries in attack, Llewellyn also added a brace his second involving some fantastic footwork to beat 4 close in defenders who seemed to have him bottled up. George took the more direct route dropping his shoulder to make the defensive hole fit his frame to grab his try.
Finnley and George again led the defensive effort with Llewellyn pulling off some last ditch try saving tags

Welshpool U8 4 v Llanidloes U8 7
By Mark James | Sunday 14th October 2012
Playing back to back matches without subs was always going to be a big ask but as the main ball carriers of Finnley and George began to tire, up stepped U7's Ceri, Harvey and star man Llewellyn who stole the show in this match scoring his second brace - his second a corker. Maybe the ref should have blown for him kicking the ball but everyone simply admired the skill as Llewellyn pounced on a loose pass near his own line, he hacked it on twice, followed by a superb pick up and over the line he went - fabulous try!
Defensively - finally - in the zone as they forced Welshpool a couple of times to six tags and then capitalised with a couple of long range efforts by Finnley.

Llanidloes U15 5 v COBRA U15 17
By Mark James | Sunday 14th October 2012
Llanidloes regrouped to play some excellent rugby and could have won this game at Cae Hafren. The Llanidloes team applied themselves very well defending with an improved focus.
As the first half progressed Cobra turned pressure into points and scored a well taken try. Llanidloes led by Josh Cotton never weakened and gained parity in the forward battle and looked comfortable in defence. Towards the end of the first half the home team were slow to react to a penalty and conceded a try due to poor tackling and a lack of organization.
The Llanidloes team continued to improve and dominated the second half led by the outstanding Josh Cotton and Will Denham in the forwards. Scrum half, Dylan Leary and fly half Ben Williams made quick ball available to the Llanidloes backs. The Llanidloes pack were totally dominant for long periods and scored through Josh Cotton from the back row.
Llanidloes had many opportunities to score but were slow to support the ball carrier short of the line. They must learn the art of attacking in wider channels and support player at speed if they are to continue to improve.
Centres Oscar Shaw and Dan Regan had broke the defensive line on numerous occasions and deserved more while wings Kieran Jones and Ewan Jones played very well throughout in attack and defence.
After dominating the whole second half the home team allowed Cobra to break away, then gain a penalty and score from close range.
The Llanidloes team must take heart from this performance and will only improve over the season. They need to react and organize at speed to decisions that go against and for the team and learn to support the ball carrier.
This team has enormous potential develop over the season.
