Orrell U13 0 v Wrexham U13 61
A Magnificent Away Win
By Julie Carter | Sunday 11th November 2012
The Wrexham under 13’s travelled to Greater Manchester to face Orrell today to see if they could maintain their fabulous start to the season.
After the minute silence for Remembrance Sunday was impeccably observed by both teams they took to an extremely muddy pitch.
Perhaps it was the mud-bound pitch which caused Orrell to come out of the blocks slowly, but Wrexham took full advantage of Orrell’s sluggish start and within minutes of the whistle Wrexham’s Jacob Hitchcox crossed the line between the posts to open the score at 0-5.
Orrell took the restart but an unfortunate miskick from the Orrell Scrum Half landed the ball at William Mills (Wiggs) feet at his own 22 metre line. This gave him the opportunity to scoop up the ball and out run his opponents after a few cheeky dummies to place the ball between the posts to increase the early lead a to 0-12 after the conversion was taken by Joe Davies.
The Wrexham squad were inspired, displaying spark and energy throughout the game, with all members of the team delivering strong performances. In particular the Wrexham forwards were superb; overpowering in the scrum to provide quick ball to the backs, who were always looking for the ball to create width and pace in order to cross the game line making the break count so many times.
Wrexham benefited from the return of their Scrum Half Tom Jenkins (Tommie) who defied any evidence of his recent injury to give an outstanding performance at No 9 with quick delivery of the ball to the backs from the scrummage and controlled the game with intelligence.
Orrell struggled to assert any control on the game as Wrexham enjoyed the bulk of the attacking possession in the first half and Orrell paid the price after a near identical repeat of their scrum half’s earlier miskick.
This time the Orrell team tried their best to push the Wrexham side back but lacked attacking intensity.
In his role as full back Joe Davies was solid under the high ball and made some thundering runs with skilful passes; following one such rapid response he yielded a lightening pass to Jacob Hitchcox giving him his 2nd try 0-17.
The power house that was Wrexham under 13’s continued to dominate all areas of the game and Wrexham’s 4th try came from hooker Rhys Pomeroy (Pies) who deserved his try after some extremely hard work to retain possession of the ball, powering through the Orrell defence to take the score to 0-22.
Wrexham’s lead was soon increased after an athletic run down the line by Joe Davies who then converted 0-29 and the half time whistle was blown after William Mills touch down under the posts 0-34.
In the 2nd half things went from bad to worse for the poor Orrel team who attempted to inject some urgency into their attacking play.
The young Orrell side showed great dignity facing defeat and never let their heads fall or ill-discipline infiltrate the game as Wrexham controlled the entire 2nd half with Orrell in disarray under attack and disorganised in defence.
Wrexham also dominated the lineouts and showed sustained improvement, a special mention to Christian Wilkinson (Bambi) who snatched an Orrell Lineout ball to set up a great run of play, he recovered quickly from the snatch to give support in a later phase of play.
Some superb team work by all Wrexham players followed with exciting passing, working the ball down through the phases, utilising all players and great offload work. Such teamwork provided Sam Rogers with an opportunity to cross the try line to reward him for his patience 0-39. Jacob Hitchcox soon completed his hat trick for the day, conversion by Sam Rogers who showed he also has kicking skills 0-46.
The final score was increased to 0-61 after Sam Rogers scored a further 3 tries to bring his points tally to 22 after some inspirational play which at times defied gravity and he was well supported throughout by all team mates especially Matthew Jones (Postie) who selflessly passed to Rogers at the last moment to allow him to score his 4th try and the revelation that is Jack Partington who defies his inexperience and powers down the wing like a pro.
All in all a fantastic display of exciting rugby and teamwork by ALL the boys!!!

BETHESDA Under 13 0 v COLWYN BAY Under 13 37
Peter Jones’ Colwyn Bay fifteen showed their intent right from the start with Ruby Roberts catching the ball from the kick off driving it into the heart of the Bethesda pack which was recycled and distributed straight down the backs line with excellent crisp handling for Sam Earl Jones to run round into the corner to touch down behind the posts.
Within five minutes the Bay had replicated the fifteen man play to send Nye Michael over in the other corner. The Bay were then drawn into a forward battle from which Ruby Roberts crashed over for a third try putting the Bay 17 up at halftime.
The second half saw the Bay regain their shape with good distribution from Will Opie and Sion Edwards at half back that brought the Bays talented centres, Connor Williams with his strong driving running and Peter Jones with his magical footwork creating two tries. The Bay fought off the temptation to get drawn into a forward struggle and continued to spread the ball wide with great support from Seb Marshall at open side flanker creating the continuity to realise scores for Sam Earl Jones and Ruby Roberts.
The Bay can be justifiably proud of this massive improvement in team work which needs to continue into the next few weeks challenging fixtures.
Try scorers: Sam Earl Jones 2, Ruby Roberts 2, Peter Jones 2, Nye 1, conversion Sam Earl Jones.
Man of the Match: Sam Earl Jones for excellent all round game and good finishing – well done Sam!

Colwyn Bay U11s 7 v Bethesda U11s 21
After observing a one minute silence for Remembrance Sunday, and lending the opposition two players, Colwyn Bay kicked off for what was to be a very muddy encounter with Bethesda.
A hard fought first half left the score 0-0 at half time. It continued to be a close game which Colwyn Bay could have capitalised on if they had managed to move the ball outside. Bethesda scored three quick tries at the start of the second half and Colwyn Bay scored a well-deserved try and conversion on the last play of the game.

Llangefni U15s 12 points v Dinbych U15s 49 points
Sunday 11 November 2012
Dinbych’s Under 15s extended their unbeaten run to 6 games but were made to work by a much improved Llangefni outfit.
Dinbych ran in 9 tries with Gruff Roberts scoring twice, and the other 7 coming from Jake Jones, Josh Morris, Iwan Johnson, Wil Morris, Bradley Reid, Jake Vaughan Thomas and Harri Evans. Bradley Reid and Aled Douglas added a conversion each. The home side’s tries came from Iwan Barnsley and Nathan Waller.
Dinbych’s players had been warned to forget last year’s comfortable win at Llangefni as the Anglesey side’s recent results showed the great strides forward made by the host team. The fact that Dinbych faced a much tougher game this time round was pressed home as Llangefni scored first with Iwan Barnsley running in from half way to score a converted try under the posts.
Dinbych struck back with number 8 Jake Jones going over for his first try of the season. The conversion went wide and Llangefni retained a slender 7-5 lead.
The visitors’ scrum was one of the big positives of Dinbych’s performance and it was that solid set piece that provided the next score. A Llangefni scrum inside the Dinbych half was won against the head and fly half Josh Morris found the space to cross for Dinbych’s second and give them a lead they would retain for the rest of the game.
A short time later Gruff Roberts touched down for his first try of the morning. Dinbych failed to capitalise as the conversion attempt again went wide as it became apparent that the normally reliable kickers were not on form.
Llangefni continued to make a game of it and Nathan Waller crossed for a second home try to make it clear this was not a game that was going to finish early. The conversion attempt fell short but the visitors’ lead was now cut to 12-15.
Just before half time, Dinbych scored again. Lock Dafydd Montgomery, who had an immense game, ripped the ball from Llangefni as they tried to run it out of their own 22 metre zone. The ball reached scrum half and captain Iwan Johnson who touched down to take his team into the interval ahead at 12-20.
The game was still finely balanced but Dinbych started the second half with much more composure as Llangefni’s early concentration seemed to wane. Hard working flanker Wil Morris struck first for the visitors crossing for Dinbych’s fifth unconverted try.
Dinbych then turned the screw. Replacement flanker Rhys Lloyd caught the ball from the restart and immediately broke deep into Llangefni territory. The ball was recycled to centre Brad Reid to force his way over for a sixth try. Aled Douglas took on the kicking duties and succeeded in adding the extras with a well taken kick, to take the score to 12-32.
Dinbych were now firmly in charge and demonstrated this further when they added two more tries despite being a man down after a sin binning. Full back Gruff Roberts added his second try after a typical searing solo run from half way. Jake Vaughan Thomas then added Dinbych’s eighth try. Vaughan Thomas has made a very successful transition to hooker in recent games but showed some of his old skills as a winger as he cut through the home defence from the 10 metre line to touch down. Bradley Reid stepped up for the conversion attempt and was slotted the kick over.
Dinbych were restored to full strength for the final minutes of the game and pressed home their advantage. Lock Dafydd Roberts made an excellent break from his own 22 metre line. Prop Harri Evans touched down from the ensuing phases of play but the try was disallowed. Dinbych mounted a renewed attack and Evans forced his way over with the last play of the game to give Dinbych a hard fought 12-49 victory.
Next week Dinbych are away to Caernarfon.
