Some excellent reports from some of the junior games that took place during the weekend
Under 8/Under 7
Colwyn Bay 8 v Mold 11
Despite the heavy conditions both sides played an excellent game of running rugby. Freddie Spillane led the charge with 3 tries, abily supported by William Healey 3 tries, Mac Garner 1 try and Oliver Williams 1 try. Unfortunately the Bays defence was below par with several soft tries being conceded.None the less all the players contributed to a tight game.
Colwyn Bay 3 v Mold 9
All the Bays large squad had a run out for the second game. Samuel Mckinley starred with 4 tags and 2 tries and put great effort into his play. Charlie Williams also scored a try.Leo Smith, Sior Marsden and Lewis McLaughan marshalled the defence well all taking multiple tags.
The squad should be pleased with their progression in the first 3 months of their rugby careers

MOLD U13 10 v COLWYN BAY U13 17
Peter Jones and his Under 13s team can be justifiably proud of their great physical and thinking performance against a big strong running Mold side.
The muddy pitch suited the home sides strong arm tactics but were matched well with some great driving from Owen Rees and Joe Fisher. The sticky ball together with Molds cute play around fringes made life difficult for the half backs but eventually the ball was widened along the back for Sam Earl Jones to crash in from which he converted an excellent goal which would become telling in the bad weather. Mold responded well by driving up the middle and scored.
The Bay replied instantly with another well worked try in the hands of Connor Williams, Sam Earl-Jones, Nathan Jones to Peter Jones to once again crash in for an excellently worked try.
Mold not to be outdone again replied driving the ball and again scoring leaving the Bay only two points up at halftime. The second half was equally as contested with the Bay struggling to widen the ball as the dogged Mold defence and the conditions were to confound them. Will Opie spoiled and harried his opposition well.
Tactics were cleverly switched by fly half Sion Edwards who put a number of kicks in for the eager Sam Earl Jones and Mathew Vaughan to present an opportunity for Peter Jones to skilfully pick up and crash over to give the Bay a 7 point lead.
There then ensued an assault on the Bay line for the last ten minutes where the Bays defence in the forwards was heroic tackles and the line and speed control exerted by the backs was controlled and managed to keep out a determined Mold team with the Bay being victors at 17- 10 over a hard fought but well deserved win.
Man of the Match – Joe Kilpatrick for improved throwing in at the lineout and good work in the tight. Well done Joe.

Wrexham U15s 29 points v Dinbych U15s 3 points
Dinbych’s Under 15s run of six unbeaten games came to an end at Wrexham. Gruff Roberts scored Dinbych’s only points with a penalty as the first half came to a close.
Dinbych’s team ran out in their new kit provided by the kind sponsorship of Jewson Builder’s Merchants of Denbigh and Lafarge Aggregates.
Wrexham are in good form this season and Dinbych knew they faced a considerable challenge. That task was not made an easier by the absence of a number of key players.
From the outset it was clear that Dinbych’s forwards faced an uphill task against the much heavier Wrexham pack. Dinbych defended bravely but eventually conceded a converted try about half way through the first period.
A second unconverted try followed but Dinbych continued to frustrate Wrexham’s efforts and enjoyed some periods of possession themselves. On half time, the visitors’ pressure earned them a penalty inside the Wrexham half. With the interval looming, Captain Iwan Johnson sensibly decided that a kick at goal was the best option. Gruff Roberts stepped up to take the kick and slotted a very well-aimed effort straight between the uprights. Dinbych were still in the game at half time at 12-3.
Dinbych continued to battle in the second half but Wrexham’s forward power denied the visitors the possession they needed to release the backs. Wrexham’s back line also boasted several representative players and they were dangerous on the break. Dinbych held out again for much of the half before leaking two converted tries. A Wrexham penalty gave a final score of 29-3.
Dinbych had battled bravely and were unlucky not to score a try of their own, but have to concede they were beaten by a better side on the day. Tighthead prop Josh Dallolio bravely stood his ground in the scrums despite being fairly new to the position this season and facing a more experienced and heavier opponent.
Rhys Lloyd covered the full back position and showed huge composure under the high ball that belied the fact he had not played in that position before. Jac Sherrington’s performance was also worthy of note as he continued to show the huge improvement he has made this season as he linked with his fellow flanker Wil Morris in a heroic display of tackling.
Next week Dinbych are scheduled to be away to Bethesda

Rhyl Junior round up 2nd December 2012
With the pitches at the Waen flooded, Rhyl’s Junior section had a change of venue this weekend. Playing on the High School playing fields for the first time the clubs youngest teams enjoyed a mixed morning.
U8’s
The U8’s returned to winning ways against Caernarfon in a series of boisterous matches. In the first match of a bruising three game series Rhyl ran out 5 - 4 victors with Ryan Espley and Roman Hodgson on the score sheet with a try each and Airan Semple running in a hatrick.
Positive running by Efan Jones and Tom Garbutt contributed to the team effort. The second game saw Rhyl maintain their winning run, scoring 4 tries to the visitors' 3. Jack Walsh ran in two tries with Owain Espley and Joseph McKeena adding to the try count. Momentum from the first two games carried over into the final game of the day with Rhyl running out victorious, scoring 5 tries and conceding only 2.
Haydn Yeomans added a pair whilst Daniel Roberts, Joseph Roberts and Owain Espley all contributed with tries.
U10’s
Rhyl U10's played two tough matches against Caernarfon, the first ending in a draw of 14-14. Tomos Harrison gave an excellent man of the match winning performance scoring tries in both games and tackling ferociously.
The ever improving Joshua Smith also scored after some very impressive play by Callum Gardner. A hard fought second game resulted in Rhyl losing 26-19. Harrison Evans played his first competitive game and scored an excellent try with good running.
A commanding performance and try scored by Aled Jones gained him man of the match in the second game. Kai Wilson gave a solid performance with charging runs from Christian Hone in both games.
U11’s
The Under 11’s had their brightest start to a match for some weeks putting in a committed performance against a talented Caerarfon side. Although the pattern of scoring had a familiar look, with three unanswered try’s for the visitors in the first half, the response from the players was positive.
The return of Oliver Staveley at fly half brought structure to the back line, making better use of the running talents of Austen Webber and James Fielding. In the second half ferocious tackling turned the game to Rhyl’s advantage with Ewan Williams producing another outstanding performance and new player Finley Whitelam having an excellent debut.
Rhyl’s only try of the game came from Staveley after a sustained period of pressure by the home side. Fielding kicked the conversion. Final score was 7 – 21.
