Dinbych U15s 55 points v COBRA 0 points
Dinbych extended their unbeaten run to 5 games with a nine try victory over mid Wales side COBRA.
Top scorer of the day was Gruff Roberts with 18 points from 2 tries and 4 conversions. Fly-half Josh Morris also notched up 12 points with two tries and a conversion. James Fisher Jones also scored two tries recording Dinbych’s first and last scores of the day. The other tries came from Harri Evans and Aled Douglas with lock Dafydd Montgomery also crossing for his first try in club rugby.
Although the Meifod based visitors battled bravely to the end, they could not match Dinbych’s organisation and forward strength. The Dinbych scrum that was to prove solid throughout the game with Josh Dallolio impressing in his first game at tighthead and Jake Vaughan Thomas making a very successful switch to hooker from the wing.
The first score came from a scrum 10 metres out from the COBRA try line. Number 8 Jake Jones picked up and made good ground. Earlier this week Jones won the most inspirational young sportsman award at the Denbighshire Sports Awards, but he was denied a celebratory try as he was felled just short of the line. James Fisher Jones was on hand to tidy up and cross for an unconverted try.
Dinbych’s next also came from a scrum but this time deep in their own territory on the 22 metre line. Full back Gruff Roberts took the ball at pace and raced away to touch down under the posts. Josh Morris’ conversion took the score to 12-0.
Dinbych continued to press and COBRA found themselves under pressure on their own try line. They tried to run the ball out of danger but Dinbych turned them over and the ball was fed wide for centre Aled Douglas to charge through for the home side’s third try.
Prop Harri Evans then had two chances to extend Dinbych’s lead but spilled the ball twice on the try line. The prop was not to be denied however and soon took the ball on the 5 metre line before crashing over for Dinbych’s fourth try.
Jake Jones then created another wonderful opportunity for himself as he broke away from his own half. Desperate COBRA defending saw him pulled down agonisingly short of a deserved try but josh Morris was in close support and touched down for Dinbych’s fifth. Gruff Roberts added the extras.
The final act of the half saw Dinbych looking for their sixth try. Replacement lock Dafydd Montgomery who had only been on the pitch for a few seconds picked up at the base of a ruck and powered over from short range for his first ever try in club rugby. Gruff Roberts now had his range and his successful conversion brought the first half to a close with Dinbych ahead by 36-0.
Fullback Roberts opened the second half with another excellent solo try from deep in his own half. His own conversion took the score to 43-0. Fly-half Josh Morris then showed his pace as he danced through the COBRA defence from half way for Dinbych’s eighth try. With the score now at 48-0 and Dinbych in dominant form, the premature end of the game seemed imminent.
Dinbych’s players were however guilty of losing concentration for a time and COBRA were unlucky not to earn a consolation try for this endeavours. The home side regrouped however and Fisher Jones drove over for his second try bring the game to a close. Roberts’ conversion gave a closing score line of 55-0.
On Sunday, the 15s together with the 16s and 14s welcome neighbours Colwyn Bay to Caeau Les Phillips.

Rhyl Junior rugby round up 28/10/2012
Rhyl U15’s and U17’s at home to Mold; U8's, U10’s and U11’s away to Glyn Ceriog
Rhyl fielded an U17 side for the first time ever and enjoyed a comfortable win at home to Mold, although a shadow was cast on an absorbing game played in fine spirit by both sides, when the Mold full back took a knock to the head in the closing minutes and had to be taken to hospital where he will hopefully make a quick recovery.
The game was refereed well by Allan James, who let the game flow. Rhyl's front row of Brendan Thomas, Jack Parry and Zak Goddard gave the scrum a solid foundation and in the second row the experience of Sean Lonsdale complemented the enthusiasm of new player Vaughan Sayer. Alex Jones led the pack well from number 8 and was on hand to support the backs and score his side's second try. Flanker Jayvon King disrupted Mold's attacks with some determined tackling. Newcomers Daniel Williams and Shaun Owen had good games in the back row too.
In the backs, scrum half Morgan Jones and stand-off Harri Thomas linked up well and were able to release the ball into space in midfield with centre Matty Jones causing mayhem at times in the Mold defence. Wing James Blythin benefited from possession to score an excellent try wide out. On the other flank Liam Jones had a busy game, coming off his wing in search of the ball and was unlucky not to feature on the score sheet. Newcomer Tom Aspinall had a solid game at full back, with some strong tackling. Morgan Jones kicked 2
conversions to make the final score 24-0.
The Under 15’s hosted Mold with no less than six first choice players unavailable, the lack of experience cost the home side dearly resulting in a 54-0 final score. To Rhyl’s credit the players fought hard, holding Mold to a 15 point lead at half time. With no subs and heavy conditions they found the second half testing with Mold scoring four converted tries in the last ten minutes adding an extra gloss to the score line.
The youngest members of Rhyl Rugby club made the long journey to Glyn Ceriog, a few miles south of Llangollen this Sunday. Playing in the beautiful surroundings of the Ceriog valley the Under 8’s continued their unbeaten season with a dominant display with four wins out of four with some impressive attacking display. Game one was won 6-0 with try’s from Joseph Roberts, Dylan Cook, Airan Semple, Jack Walsh and two from Roman Hodgson.
Game two was Glyn’s best effort with Rhyl winning 5-4 with try’s coming from Daniel Roberts and a brace each from Owain Espley, and Ryan Espley. Game three was won 5-1 with try’s from Cook, Hodgson, Roberts and a brace from Semple. The last game was won 3-1 with try’s coming from Walsh with two and Iwan Qualters with his first try of the season.
The Under 10’s produced their best performance of the season to-date with a festival of flowing rugby wining the first match 50-0 and the second match 36-15. Excellent rucking provided the foundation for the backs to run with the ball. Try scorers were Aled Jones, Owen Reese-Jones, Josh King, Callum Gardner, Ewan Court and Christian Hone. Man of the match honours were shared between Jones and Reese-Jones.
The Under 11’s didn’t fare as well, conceding five tries to Glyn in the first half without reply. It was to the credit of the players that they came out for the second half looking like a different team. Jamie Anwyl, who had his best game for the club, led the fight back tackling and rucking everything that moved. New player Austen Webber put in some huge tackles driving the opposition back and as was rewarded for his efforts with a try which James Fielding converted. Final score was 37-7.

U8 Tournament Report - October 28th
Following report kindly supplied by Welshpool RFC
Welshpool's youngest side travelled to a wet and windy Bala to take on both Bala and Dolgellau, and came away with a win and a defeat to their name.
Taking on Bala first, there was some excellent play in attack, with some excellent tries being scored, but there is still some work to be done in defence, with too many large gaps being left for opposition players to run into, and the final score was 55-30 in Bala's favour.
In their match with Dolgellau, which at times looked more like a full-contact match rather than a tag match, they were able to run out 45-35 winners, and can feel much more pleased with their defensive efforts.

Welshpool U16s 33-22 Glyn Ceiriog U16s
Welshpool's Under 16s recorded their second victory of the season as they saw off Glyn Ceiriog in their first home game of the 2012-13 season.
A hat-trick of tries from Matt Whitehouse, along with tries from Ally Evans and Adam Gough, four of which were converted by Rhys Evans, gave 'Pool their victory, which will put them in good stead for next weekend's match with Shrewsbury.

Whitchurch U10 0 v Wrexham U10 35
By Barry Jones | Sunday 28th October 2012
Great passing and running display allow Wrexham victory
Wrexham under 10's continued their development well with a strong performance away at Whitchurch. The team adapted very well to the slightly different rules and put in a great display of attacking rugby to notch up seven tries over the twenty minutes.
The time spent practising passing in particular came to the fore, as Wrexham used this to enable good runs from the backs to take the lead and the forwards did particularly well in the line outs to enable the team to put together the impressive attacks.
A good result and special credit in particular to some of the new team members who are integrating themselves very well.

A close match ends in loss to Telford
By Barry Jones | Sunday 28th October 2012
Telford strength at breakdown too much for wrexhams under 10s
After such a strong showing in the first game, Wrexham were unable to continue their winning run against Telford.
Whilst the style of play remained in the passing mould, Telford proved very good at the tackle in taking the ball away from Wrexham either by forming mauls or in one on one tackles where the usual rules for Wrexham are different.
Sadly on a few occasions this happened close to the Wrexham try area and Telford were able to convert this pressure into scores especially as the team tired in the second consecutive game.

Ruthin U13 0 v Wrexham U13 12
By Julie Carter | Sunday 28th October 2012
A hard game for Wrexham Under 13's!
It's only 3 weeks since Wrexham under 13's first win over Ruthin when the boys won convincingly 34- 5 at Bryn Estyn Lane and this time Wrexham under 13's travelled to Ruthin to defend their unbeaten run.
The game of rugby can be considered not so much of a contact sport but a collision sport which is both brutal and aggressive; certainly today's match proved just that.
The Ruthin side had home advantage and they provided the match referee, however the Wrexham boys proved that their recent winning streak was no flash in the pan by preventing the opposition from scoring at their home ground.
The Wrexham boys were prevented from playing their usual quick game by frequent interruptions from the referee to the run of play and suffered loss of territory because of it.
The young Wrexham side could have easily become frustrated, but to their credit they displayed maturity and determination to chip away at the Ruthin defence with some superb recycling of the ball and selfless passing by both the forwards and backs.
Wrexham's diligence and hardwork yielded reward when a cheeky back pass to Ben Thomas (Campo) in his own 10 metre area provided him with the opportunity to score a magnificent try after running the entire length of the pitch in spectacular fashion leaving his opponents in a trail of dust. Conversion taken by Joe Davies 0-7.
After half time, Jacob Hitchcox propelled himself over the try line after some brutal contact by both Ruthin and Wrexham players to increase the lead to 0-12.
All Wrexham players showed steely strength to prevent Ruthin from battering their way over the try line in a desperate attempt to avoid defeat at home and away to Wrexham.
The impending home defeat without getting on the score sheet spurred the home side to pound the Wrexham defence with some unattractive rugby, but this did not upset the Wrxham boys who held on bravely and put in some excellent text book tackles for the 0-12 win away from home.
