COBRA U14s 12 points v Clwb Rygbi Dinbych U14s 50 points
Sunday 4 March
Dinbych returned from the long coach trip down to Mid Wales with an 8 try victory at COBRA. James Fisher Jones and Josh Morris shared the honours as the day’s top scorers, with each gathering 15 points; Fisher Jones with a hat trick of tries and Morris adding a try to five successful conversions. Rhys Lloyd crossed for two first half tries with the other touch downs coming from Harri Evans and Bradley Reid with his first score in a Dinbych jersey. After Dinbych ran in 5 tries in the first half, COBRA made more of a game of it in the second half, with Janie Hughes and Iwan Roberts crossing from home tries and Ben Davies adding a conversion.
Dinbych initially showed little signs of the fatigue from the coach journey as they started strongly. A solid scrum on the 22 metre line allowed the ball to be fed quickly to centre Rhys Lloyd to burst through the stunned home defence for an opening score. Josh Morris’s conversion gave Dinbych an early 0-7 advantage. Dinbych swiftly added a second try as prop James Fisher Jones crashed over for an unconverted try. Lloyd then added his second as he broke away along the left touchline to run in from the 22 metre line. Morris’ very well taken kick took the score to 0-19.
Dinbych’s concentration waned slightly at this point before Dafydd Roberts broke from his own half to penetrate deep into COBRA territory. Scrum half Iwan Johnson picked up at the bases of the scrum and saw the space to make ground himself before off-loading for prop Fisher Jones to run in a simple try under the posts. Morris made sure of the extras.
The last act of the half saw Dinbych take a 0-33 lead. The front five unit of Fisher-Jones, Aron Edwards, Rob Parry, Evans and Rhys Davies combined impressively to take a COBRA scrum against the head and fly half Morris took full advantage to cross under the posts. His conversion brought he first half to a close.
With Dinbych firmly in control, the coaching team decided to make a few positional changes at the interval to test out some other combinations. This led to a more even second half contest that saw Dinbych outscore the hosts by three tries to two.
Dinbych scored first with as Fisher Jones went on a 20 metre rampage before being tackled. The ball was recycled and Fisher Jones was on hand to force his way over in the right corner to extend Dinbych’s lead to 0-38. COBRA to their credit put together some good
Dinbych restored their margin almost immediately after a series of rucks and mauls drove the visiting pack to the home 5 metre line. Harri Evans picked up and powered through to touch down under the posts. Morris’ conversion took the score to 5-45.
phases of play and after a period of sustained pressure on Dinbych’s 5 metre line, Jamie Hughes touched down for an unconverted try.
COBRA were still battling and were rewarded with a well taken try for centre Iwan Roberts. Ben Davies’ conversion took the home score into double figures.
Dinbych were not to be denied another half century score however and secured it with the last attack of the game. Centre Bradley Reid took the ball on his own 10 metre line and ran down the left flank leaving COBRA defenders sprawling in his wake before crossing for Dinbych’s eighth try and Reid’s first in Dinbych colours.
This was the third consecutive away game for Dinbych but the players have met the challenge with three impressive wins. On Sunday, they can look forward to home comforts as they welcome Rhyl to Caeau Les Phillips.

Wrexham U14 36 v Mold U14 5
Mold U14s made the journey to Wrexham on Sunday to take on their Local Rivals Wrexham.
Mold missing a number of players through injury and only one forwards substitute started well and more than held their own at scrum time and at the line out. Mold had Wrexham pushed back into their own half but a couple of penalties and turnovers saw Wrexham on Mold's try line and some loose tackling saw Wrexham score a converted Try.
Tackling was Mold's downfall as Wrexham scored two more Tries to take a 19-0 lead into half-time. Wrexham started the second half well and had soon built a commanding 36-0 lead before Mold rallied and a numbers of forward pick and drives saw them on Wrexham's try line before No8 Alex Leigh picked up and crashed over for Mold's consulation try.
Prop David Fawkes was named Man of the Match for some fine ball carrying and his work in the tight and the loose. Final Score Wrexham 36 Mold 5.

Wrexham U10 v Mold U10
Mold U10's visited Wrexham and played two very competitive games. In the first a strong Mold outfit dominated a good Wrexham team to win by six tries to two and were disappointed with uncharacteristic missed passes that led to Wrexham's scores.
William Roberts picked up a hat trick of tries, Oliver Jones picked up a brace and Alun Evans for the second week running proved that he is unstoppable ten metres from the try line.
In the second game Mold made widespread changes and brought on six fresh players including debutante Harvey Arrowsmith who was excellent. This game matched the first for passion and commitment but the lack of experience told and Mold succumbed four tries to two. Monty Roberts and Luca Davies scoring for Mold. George Tompsett was Man of the Match.
