Rhyl Youth 3 v Denbigh Youth 3
Rhyl Youth team’s youngsters stepped up to the mark at the Waen to share the spoils with Denbigh in a 3-3 game that had more excitement than the score suggests. Rhyl’s penalty goal, scored by Simon Evans, was scant reward for the effort and commitment of the Rhyl side, with Tim Back leading the way although many more could have justly been named man of match too.

Bangor University 11 v Flint 20
Flint navigated through into the next round of the SWALEC Bowl, thanks mainly to the platform provided by their front row combination of Jake Shill, Billy Forrester, and Tom Hewitt who set the tone of the game from the first scrum, out muscling their counter parts and continuing in the same vein throughout the match. Also through man-of-the-match, outside-half Damian Goss, who kicked Flint’s points, 2 conversions and 2 penalties, he also kicked Flint into good positions deep into Bangor University’s half, keeping the well drilled fast University side penned back
Flint took control from kick-off winning good set piece, allowing their backs to run the ball in what were perfect conditions for a game of rugby. The University side defended well as did Flint when Bangor University counter attacked with good handling and pace. Goss kicked an early penalty and kept the University on the back foot. Eventually the Flint pack forced themselves to the University try line, from there captain Mitch Martin picked up from the back of the scrum and was unstoppable as he powered himself over to score Flint’s first try which Goss converted making the score line 0-10.
Flint with ball in hand and good lines of running were making deep in-roads into the University half and when winger Owen Jones popped up at centre and sliced through bouncing a Bangor University centre off in the tackle he seemed destined to score only for the game to be stopped by referee Jim Ryder and rightly so as the Bangor University centre had been knocked out in his attempt to tackle Jones. As the unfortunate University centre lay unconscious on the ground the game had to be halted until the arrival of the ambulance which had been called, to everyone's relief the centre had re-gained consciousness by the arrival of Medics and was stretchered off.
Some 35 mins later the game re-started but after the long stoppage Flint seemed to lose their rhythm, even though Flint scored a try soon after through centre Sam Parry after a penetrating run and off load by fellow centre Barry Goldsmith.
Flint were never able to re-capture there early form and allowed Bangor University in for a try of their own and 2 penalties. Despite spending the last 20 minutes in the University half Flint were only able to register a penalty for their efforts, finishing the game deserved winners at 11-20.
Next week see's Flint back in league action where they play Benllech away.

Pwllheli 37 v 6 Dolgellau (h/t 15- 6)
Another entertaining match at Bodegroes and again the weather was fine, although there was a bit of a breeze, and there was a a fist-full of tries for the home team supporters to admire.
Pwllheli started in a hurry and a flowing sixty metre move saw captain Dafydd Anwyl cross the line for his first try of the season with only three minutes on the clock. On restart, the home side kept on the pressure and were dominating in the visitors 22 when evergreen hooker Dafydd Myrddin broke clear to dart over the line. Both conversions failed.
Dolgellau were still very much in the match and were awarded a penalty which full back Tom Roberts sucesfuly converted. Pwllheli scored again on twenty five minutes when left wing Robin Hughes Jones was given some space and he beat the cover to score wide out. Just before half time, Tom Roberts notched his second penalty to keep Dolgellau very much in contention and give a 15 - 6 half time score.
The first period of the second half saw Dolgellau launching attack after attack but the Pwllheli defence stood firm and eventually the home side broke through again and centre Deio Brunelli finished off to score a bonus point try. The visitors resumed their attack. but narrowly failed to complete a number of moves.
From one of these breakdowns, home flanker Robat Williams forced his way through the Dolgellau defence from mid-field and completed the move and scored the fifth try. Full bach John Pugh added a sixth shortly afterwards and this was converted. Just before final whistle, Robin Hughes Jones threaded his way through the whole Dolgellau defence to score the seventh try.
Pwllheli deserved the win but Dolgellau gave their all and no doubt will have gained from this experience.
