Rhyl Rugby Club Junior match reports
Rhyl v Llangefni
An entertaining match saw Rhyl and Llangefni U10's draw 14 -14. The ever reliable Tomos Harrison scored the first try and convertion. Man of the Match Harrison Evans scored a try of his own, converted by an ever improving Ewan Court. Strong tackling from Callum Gardner and good rucking from Connor McKenna and Josh Smith and a gutsy appearance from Paddy Nelson playing up an age group saw Rhyl just unable to hold on to victory at the end.
The U11's had the performance of the season with an emphatic 61 - 7 win against a strong Llangefni side at the Waen. Rhyl dominated the game in every area from start to finish with some fantastic team play, putting in some crunching tackles and following it up with excellent rucking. James Fielding continued his brilliant kicking record, knocking over 7 out of 8 of his conversion attempts, with Liam Roberts also adding an excellent kick to the score sheet. During the match Fielding scored a hat trick with Sol Williams and Austin Webber scoring 2 try's apiece. Also, Ewan Williams, Ollie Stavely and Craig Koffler crossed the whitewash to complete the score.
Rhyl U14s travelled over the water to Anglesey and came out victors in a hard fought game against Llangefni RFC. Rhyl took an early lead and went in at half time 17- 7 up. However, Llangefni came back hard in the second half as Rhyl started to tire due to the heavy conditions and a number of injuries.
With 5 minutes to go it was 19-17 to Llangefni. Rhyl then won a penalty in front of goal which was converted by Sam Jones to give Rhyl a 20-19 lead which they held on to for the last few minutes defending well against a committed Llangefni attack. All credit goes to both teams for putting on a great game of rugby in poor conditions. The final score was Llangefni 19 - Rhyl 20. Try scorers for Rhyl were Max Drinkwater, Jake Kingsley, Sasha Pichushkin. Sam Jones scored a penalty and one conversion.

Colwyn Bay U13 7 V Nant Conwy U13 24
Weak defence around the breakdown cost Bay dearly in the opening minutes with Nant taking an early lead 7-0. This fired up the concentration of the team with Peter Jones having another excellent game leading his team to take the game back to Nant putting pressure on their line for a number of phases. Sion Edwards took a quick penalty who passed the ball down the line to Sam Earl Jones to cradsh over to take the lead after he also converted his own try.
Good defensive work from Seb Marshall, Mathew Vaughan and Owen Rees continued to hold Nant Conwy out who eventually scored another try before half time. Both teams came out resurgent at the start of the second half with good runs from Connor Hogan and support from the forwards but the lack of defensive structure and guarding to the fringes of the breakdown leaked a further two tries.
The Bay in the last ten minutes put considerable pressure on Nant and were nearly rewarded woth a try after a bullocking run from Nicholas Young who was stripped of the ball as he went over the line.
Whilst there were a number of good performances the Man of the Match goes to Sam Earl Jones who was severely tested by Nant at full back and proved himself not only physically but tactically choosing some great options. Well done Sam.
Try scorers: Sam Earl Jones, Conversion: Sam Earl Jones

UNDER 7 ROUND UP
Colwyn Bay 8 v Nant Conwy 6
Colwyn Bay 8 Nant Conwy 6
A committed squad travelled to Nant for a local derby game. Conditions were very heavy underfoot but both teams played some excellent running rugby. In the first game the defensive effort was lead by Owen Opie,Zak Roberts and Ella Morris who all took multiple tags. Some excellent running by Samuel Mckinley [3 tries], Ella Morris [3 tries] and Owen Opie [2 tries] led to the Bay running out narrow winners.
This galvanised all the team who contributed to a great second game. Mathew Costello turned in a committed defensive effort, aided by Bethan Elliot and Callum Perry. As legs tired the Bay worked hard for a second win. Try scorers Samuel Mckinley [6 tries], Owen Opie [1 try] and Ella Morris [1 try]. Well done to all the squad.
