The Llandudno players, committee members and supporters braved the elements of Storm Hannah to travel to Pwllheli for their last league game of the season.
Whilst the Goats had already secured the league championship and recently beaten Pwllheli at home, they knew this would be a tough encounter with the hosts having occupied one of the top two spots in the championship during each of the previous six seasons.
Pwllheli kicked off with the wind to their backs and put early pressure on Llandudno which resulted in a try for Tom Parry jones, converted by Osian parry Jones.
The Goats went straight back at Pwllheli from the restart and scored a try through Johnny Stokes following a catch and drive from a line out, the conversion being missed by Arthur Lennon against the strong wind to leave the hosts leading 7-5.
Pwllheli extended their lead after 18 minutes by an Osian Jones penalty following ill-discipline by the Llandudno forwards.
Again the Goats came straight back at the hosts following a long punt down field by Osian Jones which was collected by Oscar Lennon deep in his own half, who following a blistering run into the Pwllheli 22, made a slick inside pass to Lloyd Evans in support to score a try under the posts converted by Arthur Lennon to give the Goats the lead for the first time at 12-10.
By now, the Goats were getting into their stride and to grips with the conditions and managed to play exhilarating free flowing rugby which led to a succession of tries for Dan Sullivan, Ed Weston, Lloyd Evans (x2) two of which were converted by Arthur Lennon.
Pwllheli hit back just before half-time with a try of their own to leave the Goats leading 36-17 at the interval.
In the second half, the Goats played with the wind to their backs, although by now this had subsided. They extended their lead to 39-17 following an Arthur Lennon Penalty. This was followed soon after by a try for his brother Oscar Lennon, converted by Arthur to leave the goats with a commanding 46 - 17 lead.
The young Pwllheli side, to their credit, kept battling on and replied with a converted try to leave the score at 46-24.
This was the last time that the hosts were to trouble the scoreboard as Llandudno scored further tries through Bobby Davies, Aled Meredith and Dan Sullivan, two of which were converted by Arthur Lennon and Nick Dundee respectively, to leave a final result of Llandudno 65 – Pwllheli 24.
Following the match, the Goats were presented with the league trophy and enjoyed the hospitality of the gracious Pwllheli Chairman, committee members and players before returning to Maesdu Road where the festivities and celebrations continued.
The Llandudno coaching team and players will now turn their attention to the North Wales Cup Final on the 11th of May, where they will face another tough encounter against Nant Conwy.
