North Wales Referees Appointment Secretary warns clubs that they must encourage from within their clubs to take up the whistle
Merv Picton, pictured right, Referees Appointment Secretary for North Wales, has issued a chilling warning to the clubs of North Wales that unless they actively encourage people from their clubs to take up the whistle, that there are going to be games in the future which will have to be cancelled because there is not an official available to take charge.
Merv stated: 'This is the worst situation I have found myself in since starting the position of Appointments Officer some five years ago. It is up to the clubs, we cannot recruit from outside rugby at this stage. Without licensed referees the game cannot move ahead.'
